Time Warner Cable Inc., together with its subsidiaries, provides video, high-speed data and voice services in the United States. The company’s cable systems are located mainly in five geographic areas: New York State (including New York City); the Carolinas, the Midwest (including Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin); southern California (including Los Angeles); and Texas. As of December 31, 2014, the company served approximately 15.2 million residential and business services customers who subscribed to one or more of its video, high-speed data and voice services. The company’s residential services also include security and home management services, and its business services also include networking and transport services (including cell tower backhaul services) and enterprise-class, cloud-enabled hosting, managed applications and services. The company also sells video and online advertising inventory to various local, regional and national customers. Services The company has three segments: Residential Services, Business Services and Other Operations. Residential Services The company offers video, high-speed data and voice services, as well as security and home management services, to residential customers. As of December 31, 2014, the company served 14.5 million residential services customers. Video Services Programming: The company’s video service provides approximately 300 channels (including, on average, 200 high-definition (HD) channels) and 20,000 video-on-demand (VOD) choices, which consumers could watch on the device of their choosing, both inside and outside the home. The company offers various tiers and packages of video programming and music services, some of which are modified to appeal to specific groups of customers. It offers specialty tiers of genre-based programming, such as Movie Pass and TWC Sports Pass, and ethnic programming, such as El Paquetazo for subscribers interested in Hispanic-oriented content. The company’s residential video subscribers also subscribe to premium network programming, such as Cinemax, EPIX, HBO, Showtime and Starz and related offerings, on an à la carte basis and in packages. Time-shifting: The company provides a range of advanced services, such as VOD, digital video recorders (DVRs) and Start Over services that give residential video subscribers control over when they watch their favorite programming. The company’s VOD service provides residential video subscribers with access to a selection of movies, programming from broadcast and cable networks, premium movie services, music videos, local programming and other content as a complement to the programming packages and channels to which they subscribe. The company offers equipment with DVR functionality that enables residential video subscribers to pause and/or rewind ‘live’ television programs and record programs for future viewing. The company also offers whole home DVR, a multi-room DVR service that allows a program recorded on a DVR to be watched through other compatible set-top boxes in a customer’s home. The company also offers Start Over, which enables digital video subscribers using a set-top box to restart select ‘in progress’ programs directly from the relevant channel. New ways to watch: The company, through its TWC TV apps, enables in-home viewing of up to 300 channels of live programming and approximately 7,000 hours of VOD programming on various devices, including Apple iOS and Android tablets and smart phones, Amazon Kindle Fire tablets, Roku streaming players, Samsung Smart TVs, Xbox 360 video game consoles and Fan TV streaming players, as well as on PC and Mac computers via In addition, subscribers are able to use their device or computer to, access the interactive program guide, browse and start VOD programs and change television channels on compatible set-top boxes. Through the same TV apps, residential video subscribers are able to watch up to 41 live channels and 2,000 hours of VOD content from 48 networks on a ‘TV Everywhere’ basis outside the home. As of December 31, 2014, the company served approximately 10.8 million residential video subscribers.
