Retail Leasing In the area of retail leasing, the company’s finance subsidiaries acquire new vehicle lease contracts originated primarily through dealers. The company’s finance subsidiaries are responsible for contract collection and administration during the lease period. Wholesale Financing The company’s finance subsidiaries also provide wholesale financing primarily to qualified vehicle dealers to finance inventories of new Toyota vehicles and used vehicles of the company and others. The finance companies acquire security interests in vehicles financed at wholesale. The company’s finance subsidiaries also make term loans to dealers for business acquisitions, facilities refurbishment, real estate purchases and working capital requirements. These loans are secured with liens on real estate, other dealership assets and/or personal assets of the dealers. Insurance The company provides insurance services in the United States through Toyota Motor Credit Corporation’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Toyota Motor Insurance Services, Inc. (TMIS) and its wholly-owned insurance company subsidiaries. Their principal activities include marketing, underwriting and claims administration. TMIS also provides coverage related to vehicle service agreements and contractual liability agreements through dealers to customers. In addition, TMIS also provides coverage and related administrative services to affiliated companies of Toyota Motor Credit Corporation. The company’s dealers in Japan and in other countries and regions also engage in vehicle insurance sales. Other Financial Services Toyota Finance Corporation launched its credit card business in 2001 and began issuing Lexus credit cards in 2005 when the Lexus brand was introduced in Japan. As of March 31, 2015, Toyota Finance Corporation had 13.5 million card holders (including Lexus credit card holders). All Other Operations The company’s All other operations business segment includes the design and manufacture of prefabricated housing, information technology related businesses, including a Web portal for automobile information called GAZOO.com, and sales promotions for KDDI’s communication-related products (predominantly the au brand). Housing: The company’s subsidiary, Toyota Housing Corporation, engages in the manufacture and sale of housing. Suppliers The company’s supplier includes Denso Corporation. Environmental Matters The company’s automotive operations in Japan are subject to environmental regulation under laws, such as the Air Pollution Law, the Water Pollution Control Law, the Noise Regulation Law, and the Vibration Control Law. It has also complied with the Waste Disposal and Public Cleaning Law. The company’s assembly, manufacturing, and other operations in the United States are subject to a range of environmental regulation under the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Pollution Prevention Act, and the Toxic Substances Control Act. Significant Events In July 2015, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), and SPARX Group Co. Ltd. (SPARX Group) have signed an agreement to consider the establishment of a new investment fund aiming to encourage innovation and support the spread of advanced technologies for future generations. In October 2015, Aisin AI Co., Ltd. and Toyota Motor Corporation have made a further agreement regarding the consolidation of the development and production of manual transmissions under Aisin AI, which was agreed in principle in November 2014. In November 2015, Subaru announced that it is collaborating with Toyota Motor Corporation to develop a new BRZ. In March 2016, Toyota Motor Corporation and Yanmar Co., Ltd. have reached an agreement to collaborate on technical development, production, and mutual parts use in the nautical industry. In April 2016, Toyota will launch a separate unit called Toyota Connected to focus on user experience, product development and data science through Microsoft's Azure cloud tech
