Grupo Televisa, S.A.B. operates as a media company in Spain. The company operates four broadcast channels in Mexico City and complements its network geographic coverage through affiliated stations throughout the country. The company produces pay-TV channels with national and international feeds, which reach subscribers throughout Latin America, the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Asia Pacific. It exports its programs and formats to television networks worldwide. In 2013, the company exported 79,650 hours of programming to 75 countries, excluding the United States. The company has an annual circulation of approximately 126 million magazines publishing 201 titles in approximately 21 countries. The company owns 58.7% of Innova, S. de R.L. de C.V. and subsidiaries (collectively, ‘Sky’), a direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television provider in Mexico, Central America, and the Dominican Republic. It is also a shareholder in two Mexican telecommunications companies, such as Empresas Cablevisión, S.A.B. de C.V. (Cablevisión) and Televisión Internacional, S.A. de C.V. and its subsidiaries (collectively, ‘TVI’). The company owns 100% of Cablemás, S.A. de C.V. (Cablemás); 51% of Cablevisión; and 50% of TVI. The company also owns, as well as, a digital entertainment Web portal in Latin America, a gaming business, which includes casinos, a 50% stake in a radio company that reached 73% of the Mexican population, a feature film production and distribution company, a soccer team and a stadium in Mexico as of December 31, 2013. The company also owns an unconsolidated equity stake in Ocesa Entretenimiento, S.A. de C.V. (OCEN), a live entertainment company in Mexico. It holds a 50% equity stake in GSF Telecom Holdings, S.A.P.I. de C.V., which indirectly owns 100% of Grupo Iusacell, S.A. de C.V. (Iusacell). Iusacell is a provider of telecommunications services primarily engaged in providing mobile services throughout Mexico. Operations Television The company owns and operates 4 of the 12 television stations in Mexico City, Channels 2, 4, 5, and 9. Some of these stations are affiliated with 221 repeater stations and 33 local stations outside of Mexico City. The company also owns a station that has a digital subchannel that transmits in the English language on the California border. Programming The company produces a part of the Spanish-language television programming in the world. In 2013, it produced approximately 93,300 hours of programming for broadcast on its network stations and through its cable operations and DTH satellite ventures, including programming produced by its local stations. The company produces various programs, including telenovelas, newscasts, situation comedies, game shows, reality shows, children’s programs, comedy and variety programs, musical and cultural events, movies, and educational programming. Its telenovelas are broadcast either dubbed or subtitled in various languages worldwide. The company’s programming also includes broadcasts of special events and sports events in Mexico promoted by the company and others. Among the sports events that it broadcasts are soccer games and professional wrestling matches. In 2013, the company broadcasted FIFA World Cup Under 20 Turkey 2013, FIFA World Cup Under 17 UAE, Copa FIFA Confederaciones Brasil 2013, and Qualification Matches for FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014. It has also acquired the rights to broadcast the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil for the territory of Mexico and the rights to broadcast the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar for Mexico and other territories in Latin America. The company’s programming is produced primarily at its 30 studios in Mexico City. It also operates 18 fully equipped remote control units. Some of its local television stations also produce their own programming. These local stations operate 43 studios and 35 fully equipped remote control units.
