Segments The company operates in the following segments: Canadian Retail, U.S. Retail and Wholesale Banking. Canadian Retail segment The Canadian Retail segment provides a range of financial products and services to customers in the Canadian personal and commercial banking businesses, including credit cards, auto finance, wealth, and insurance businesses. Under the TD Canada Trust brand, personal and small business banking provides a range of financial products and services to approximately 15 million customers through its network of 1,165 branches, 2,867 automated banking machines (ATMs), telephone, Internet and mobile banking. Commercial Banking serves the needs of medium and large Canadian businesses by offering a range of customized products and services to help business owners meet their financing, investment, cash management, international trade, and day-to-day banking needs. Auto Finance provides flexible financing options to customers at point-of-sale for automotive and recreational vehicle purchases through auto dealer network. The credit card business provides a line-up of credit cards, including co-branded and affinity credit card programs. The wealth business offers a range of wealth products and services to a set of retail and institutional clients in Canada and Europe through the direct investing, advice-based, and asset management businesses. The insurance business offers property and casualty insurance, as well as life and health insurance products in Canada. Business Strategy: The strategy for Canadian Retail segment is as follows: consistently delivering a legendary customer experience in everything; getting recognized as an extraordinary place to work; making the customer and employee experience simple, fast, and easy in order to drive efficiency; strengthening local market presence in communities; and investing in the future to deliver top tier earnings performance consistently. U.S. Retail segment The U.S. Retail segment comprises the company’s retail and commercial banking operations operating under the brand TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank, and wealth management services in the U.S. The retail banking operations provide a range of financial products and services through multiple delivery channels, including a network of 1,318 stores located along the east coast from Maine to Florida, telephone, mobile and Internet banking and ATMs. The commercial banking operations serves the needs of businesses, customizing a range of products and services to meet their financing, investment, cash management, international trade, and day-to-day banking needs. The company’s wealth management services include advice-based and asset management businesses. The advice-based business provides investment, trust and banking solutions and advice, across different client asset levels and product complexity, to meet clients’ goals in protecting, growing and transitioning their wealth. The U.S. Retail segment works with TD Ameritrade to refer mass affluent clients to TD Ameritrade for their direct investing needs. The asset management business manages assets for institutional and high net worth clients and provides sub-advisory services and includes Epoch Investment Partners, Inc. Business Strategy: The strategy for the U.S. Retail segment is as follows: providing integrated banking services to customers across all of distribution channels, including digital, phone, ATM, and branch; investing in the future, outgrowing the competition, and delivering consistent top tier earnings performance; delivering legendary service and convenience, and making customers proud to be associated with the company; operating with excellence, and making the customer and employee experience simple, fast, and easy to drive efficiency; taking risks and deploying capital prudently within a well-defined risk appetite; and strengthening presence in the higher growth markets along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard that comprise the company’s U.S. footprint. Wholesale Banking segment The Wholesale Banking segment provides a range of capital markets, investment banking, and corporate banking products and services, including underwriting and distribution of new debt and equity issues, providing advice on strategic acquisitions and divestitures, and meeting the daily trading, funding, and investment needs of clients. Operating under the TD Securities brand, the company’s clients include highly-rated companies, governments, and institutions in key financial markets worldwide. Business Strategy: This segment’s strategy is as follows: extending client-centric franchise model through superior advice and execution; strengthening position as a top investment dealer in Canada; supporting North American franchise, and working with business partners to enhance TD's brand; maintaining a prudent risk profile by focusing on high quality clients, counterparties, and products; and adapting to rapid industry and regulatory changes. Investment in TD Ameritrade The company has an investment in TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation (TD Ameritrade), a provider of securities brokerage services and related technology-based financial services to retail investors, traders and independent registered investment advisors. TD Ameritrade provides its services predominantly through the Internet, a national branch network and relationships with independent registered investment advisors. History The Toronto-Dominion Bank was founded in 1855.
