TravelCenters of America LLC operates and franchises travel centers and convenience store locations. The company’s customers include trucking fleets and their drivers, independent truck drivers, and motorists. As of December 31, 2013, its travel center business included 247 travel centers located in 42 states in the U.S., primarily along the U.S. interstate highway system, and the province of Ontario, Canada. Its business included 34 convenience stores in 4 states with retail gas stations, primarily Kentucky, which the company operates and whose primary customers are motorists. The company offers a range of products and services, including diesel fuel and gasoline, truck repair and maintenance services, full service restaurants, approximately 43 different brands of quick serve restaurants (QSRs), travel stores, and various driver amenities. Some of its locations include gaming operations. Locations As of December 31, 2013, the company’s 281 locations consisted of 179 travel centers and 1 convenience store leased from Hospitality Properties Trust (HPT) and operated by the company; 5 travel centers leased from HPT and subleased to and operated by its franchisees; 33 travel centers and 27 convenience stores that it owns and operates; 3 travel centers and 4 convenience stores that it operates on sites owned by parties other than HPT or the company; 2 travel centers and 2 convenience stores that it operates for a joint venture in which it owns a minority interest; and 25 travel centers that are operated by its franchisees on sites they own or lease from parties other than the company. The company’s travel centers include 172 operated under the TA and related brands and 75 operated under the Petro brand. Its travel center includes approximately 25 acres of land with parking for 189 tractor trailers and 100 cars; a full service restaurant and one or more QSRs that it operates as a franchisee under various brands; a truck repair facility and parts store; multiple diesel and gasoline fueling points, including diesel exhaust fluid at the diesel lanes; and a travel store, game room, lounge, and other amenities for professional truck drivers and motorists. Product and Service Offering The company’s locations offer a range of products and services designed to appeal to its customers, such as: Fuel: The company sells diesel fuel at separate truck fueling lanes at its travel centers. It also sells branded and unbranded gasoline at motorist fuel islands. As of December 31, 2013, it offered branded gasoline at 258 of its 281 locations and unbranded gasoline at 8 of its locations (7 of which are operated by franchisees of the company’s). Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF): DEF is an additive that is required by various truck engines manufactured after 2010. As of December 31, 2013, DEF was offered from dispensers on the diesel fueling island at all of the travel centers that it operates and nearly all of its franchised travel centers. Full Service Restaurants and QSRs: Majority of the company’s travel centers have both full service restaurants and QSRs that offer customers various nationally recognized branded food choices. The majority of its full service restaurants are operated under its Iron Skillet and Country Pride brands, and offers menu table service and buffets. The company also operates 43 different brands of QSRs, including Arby's, Burger King, Dunkin' Donuts, Pizza Hut, Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits, Starbuck's Coffee, Subway, and Taco Bell. As of December 31, 2013, 217 of its travel centers included a full service restaurant, 190 of its travel centers and convenience stores offered approximately 1 QSR, and there were a total of 359 QSRs in its 281 locations. Truck Service: The company’s 235 truck repair and maintenance facilities have between 3 and 6 service bays and are staffed by mechanics and service technicians employed by the company or its franchisees. These shops operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, and offer maintenance and emergency repair and road services, ranging from basic services, such as oil changes and tire repair to specialty services, such as diagnostics and repair of air condi
