Star Bulk Carriers Corp., an international shipping company, engages in owning and operating a fleet of dry bulk carrier vessels. The company’s vessels transport a range of major and minor bulk commodities, including ores, coal, grains and fertilizers, along worldwide shipping routes. Fleet As of April 6, 2015, the company’s operating fleet of 68 vessels had an aggregate capacity of approximately 7.1 million dwt (deadweight ton). The company’s fleet, which emphasizes large Capesize vessels, primarily transports minerals from the Americas and Australia to east Asia, particularly China, but also Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia. The company’s Supramax vessels carry minerals, grain products and steel between the Americas, Europe, Africa, Australia and Indonesia and from these areas to China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines and Malaysia. Customers The company charters out its vessels to major iron ore miners, utilities companies, commodity trading houses and diversified shipping companies. A list of such companies with which the company chartered its vessels, as of December 31, 2014 included: Cargill, E.O.N. Global Commodities, EDF Man Shipping, EDF Trading, FMG International, Glencore, Glocal Maritime Ltd, Louis Dreyfus, Noble, Norden, Oldendorf Carriers, Rio Tinto, and Western Bulk Pte. Ltd. Strategy The main elements of the company’s strategy are as follows: capitalize on expected increases in demand for dry bulk shipping; charter its vessels in an active and sophisticated manner; expand its fleet through opportunistic acquisitions of high-quality vessels at attractive prices; and maintain a strong balance sheet through moderate use of leverage. Significant Events In April 2015, Star Bulk Carriers Corp. has announced the delivery of M/V Star Jennifer, a 2006 built 82,290 dwt kamsarmax bulk carrier, from Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd. The company completed the acquisition of 34 vessels from Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd. (Excel Vessel Fleet) under an en bloc transaction announced on August 19, 2014. Star Bulk owns 70 dry bulk vessels on the water, consisting of 1 Newcastlemax, nineteen Capesize, 4 Post-Panamax, 20 Kamsarmax, 8 Panamax, 7 Ultramax, 10 Supramax and 1 Handymax vessel, with a total carrying capacity of 7.2 million dwt. History Star Bulk Carriers Corp. was incorporated in 2006 under the laws of the Marshall Islands.
