The company utilizes a third-party network of transportation providers, including independent contractors (ICs) and purchased power providers, to serve a customer base in terms of end-market focus and annual freight expenditures. Although, the company services large national accounts, the company primarily focuses on small to mid-size shippers. Segments The company has three operating segments: TL, LTL, and Global Solutions. TL This segment arranges the pickup, delivery, freight consolidation, and inventory management of truckload, intermodal, and ground and air expedited freight through the company’s network of 48 TL service centers, 4 freight consolidation and inventory management centers, 23 company dispatch offices, and approximately 100 independent brokerage agents located throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The company offers temperature-controlled, dry van, intermodal drayage, and flatbed services; and engages in the transport of automotive parts, refrigerated foods, poultry, and beverages. The company’s ground and air expedited services feature proprietary bid technology supported by its fleets of ground and air assets. The company provides a range of TL solutions for its customers by leveraging its base of third-party carriers who operate temperature-controlled, dry van, and/or flatbed capacity. Although, the company engages in the transport of refrigerated foods, poultry, and beverages, it also provides various TL transportation solutions for dry goods ranging from paper products to steel, as well as flatbed service for major industrial load requirements. The company’s intermodal capabilities include drayage, which is the transport of freight between ocean ports or rail ramps and shipping docks. The company’s 2015 acquisition of Stagecoach Cartage and Distribution LP and its 2014 acquisitions of Rich Logistics and Everett Transportation Inc. and certain assets of Keith Everett; ISI Acquisition Corp. (which wholly owns Integrated Services, Inc. and ISI Logistics Inc.) and ISI Logistics South, Inc.; and Active Aero Group Holdings, Inc. expanded the company’s presence in the TL market and expedited service offerings for its customers with time critical transportation needs. Expedited offerings include ground and air services. The company’s dispatch offices and brokerage agents are located throughout the United States and Canada. Company Dispatchers and Inside Sales: The company has approximately 200 company brokers, whom it refers to as dispatchers, which not only engage in the routing and selection of its transportation providers, but also supplement its improving internal TL sales force. Inside sales personnel and company dispatchers are responsible for managing existing customer relationships and generating new customer relationships. Dispatch Office Expansion: The company has expanded its dispatch operations based upon the needs of its customers. Independent Brokerage Agents: In addition to the company’s dispatchers, it maintains a network of independent brokerage agents that have partnered with the company. Similar to its dispatchers, the company’s brokerage agents engage in the routing and selection of transportation providers for its customer base and perform sales and customer service functions on its behalf. Brokerage Agent Expansion: The company offers access to its network of approximately 3,900 ICs and company drivers and base of purchased power providers. LTL This segment engages in the pickup, consolidation, linehaul, deconsolidation, and delivery of LTL shipments throughout the United States and into Mexico, Puerto Rico,
