Segments The company operates through three segments: Wholesale, Retail, and Licensing. Wholesale segment This segment sells the company’s products to major upscale and certain mid-tier department stores, specialty stores, and golf and pro shops, both domestically and internationally. As of March 29, 2014, the company’s Ralph Lauren-branded products were sold through approximately 11,000 doors worldwide. The company’s products are also sold through the e-commerce sites of certain of its wholesale customers. The primary product offerings sold through the company’s wholesale channels of distribution include menswear, womenswear, childrenswear, accessories, and home furnishings. Its collection brands — Ralph Lauren Women's Collection and Black Label, and Men's Purple Label and Black Label — are distributed worldwide through various fashion retailers. Department stores are the company’s major wholesale customers in North America. In Latin America, its wholesale products are sold in department stores and specialty stores. In Europe, its wholesale sales are a mix of sales to both department stores and specialty stores, depending on the country. In Japan, the company’s wholesale products are distributed primarily through shop-within-shops at premier and top-tier department stores, and the mix of business is weighted to Men's and Women's Blue Label. In the Greater China and Southeast Asia region and Australia, its wholesale products are sold primarily at mid and top-tier department stores, and the mix of business is primarily weighted to Men's and Women's Blue Label. The company also distributes product to certain licensed stores operated by its partners in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. In addition, its Club Monaco products are distributed through select department stores and specialty stores in Europe. The company sells the majority of its excess and out-of-season products through secondary distribution channels worldwide, including its retail factory stores. Worldwide Distribution Channels Chaps-branded products distributed by the company’s Wholesale segment were sold domestically through approximately 2,800 doors as of March 29, 2014. Its products are sold primarily through its own sales forces. This segment maintains its primary showrooms in New York City. In addition, the company maintains regional showrooms in Milan, Paris, London, Munich, Madrid, Stockholm, and Panama. Shop-within-Shops: As of March 29, 2014, the company had approximately 22,000 shop-within-shops in its primary channels of distribution to its Ralph Lauren-branded wholesale products worldwide. Basic Stock Replenishment Program: Basic products, such as knit shirts, chino pants, oxford cloth shirts, selected accessories, and home products could be ordered by the company’s wholesale customers at any time through its basic stock replenishment programs. Customers This segment’s major customer is Macy's, Inc. Retail segment This segment consists of sales made directly to consumers through the company’s retail stores worldwide; through concession-based shop-within-shops located primarily in Asia, Australia, and Europe; and through its retail e-commerce channel in North America, Europe, and Asia. As of March 29, 2014, this segment consisted of 433 directly-operated freestanding stores worldwide, totaling approximately 3 million square feet and 8 e-commerce Websites. Ralph Lauren Stores The company’s Ralph Lauren stores feature a range of apparel, accessories, home, watch and jewelry, and fragrance product assortments in an atmosphere reflecting the attitude and image of the Ralph Lauren, Polo, RRL, and Denim & Supply brands, including merchandise that is not sold in department stores. Its Ralph Lauren stores are primarily situated in major upscale street locations and upscale regional malls, in urban markets.
