Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. operates as a fertilizer company. The company produces three primary crop nutrients: potash, nitrogen and phosphate. It owns and operates five potash operations in Saskatchewan and one in New Brunswick. Phosphate The company’s phosphate operations include the manufacture and sale of solid and liquid phosphate fertilizers, phosphate feed and industrial acid, which is used in food products and industrial processes. The company has phosphate mines and mineral processing plant complexes in Florida and North Carolina. The company also has four phosphate feed plants in the United States; and produces phosphoric acid at its Geismar, Louisiana facility. The company’s other phosphate properties include: animal feed plants in Marseilles, Illinois; Joplin, Missouri; and Weeping Water, Nebraska; a technical and food grade phosphate plant in Cincinnati, Ohio; and a terminal facility at Morehead City, North Carolina. Potash Operations The company’s potash operations include the mining and processing of potash, which is predominantly used as fertilizer. The company has the right to mine 774,861 acres of land in Saskatchewan. Included in these holdings are mineral rights to 668,150 acres contained in blocks around its potash mines. The company’s remaining 106,711 acres are located elsewhere in Saskatchewan. Nitrogen Operations The company’s nitrogen operations include production of nitrogen fertilizers and nitrogen chemicals. These products are used for agricultural, industrial and animal nutrition purposes. The company has four nitrogen production facilities, of which three are located in the United States and one is located in Trinidad. The company mines phosphate ore and manufactures phosphoric acid, solid and liquid fertilizers, animal feed supplements, purified phosphoric acid, hydrofluosilicic acid (HFSA), and silicon tetrafluoride (STF). Offshore Marketing Potash: The company produces in Saskatchewan for sale outside Canada and the United States is sold exclusively to Canpotex Limited (Canpotex), which is owned in equal shares by the three potash producers in the Province of Saskatchewan. Environmental Requirements The Safety, Health and Environment committee of the Board of Directors measures the company’s safety, health, environmental, and security performance against its management policies and procedures. Customers The primary customers for fertilizer products are retailers, dealers, cooperatives, distributors and other fertilizer producers. The primary customers for industrial products are chemical product manufacturers and the primary customers for feed products are feed manufacturers. Competition Potash: The Mosaic Company, Agrium Inc. and Intrepid Potash Inc. are the company’s main competitors in North America. In offshore markets, Canpotex and PCS Sales compete with producers, such as Belaruskali, Israel Chemicals Ltd., K+S Group, Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile S.A., and Uralkali. Nitrogen: In the U.S. market, the company competes with other domestic producers, including Agrium Inc.; CF Industries Holdings, Inc.; and Koch Industries, Inc. Phosphate: The company’s competitors for North American phosphate fertilizer sales are Agrium Inc.; The Mosaic Company; and J.R. Simplot Company. In offshore markets, the company competes primarily with OCP S.A., as well as producers from China, Russia and Saudi Arabia. The company competes with The Mosaic Company; J.R. Simplot Company; and Chinese and Russian producers for feed sales. The company markets industrial phosphate products principally in the United States and competes with Innophos Holdings, Inc., Israel Chemicals Ltd. and Chinese producers for North American industrial sales. History Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. was founded in 1953.
