Parabel Inc., a technology development and licensing company, provides micro-crop technology to address the global demand for new sources of feed and food. The company has developed proprietary technology, which enables customer licensees to grow, harvest, and process locally-available aquatic plants (micro-crops) to produce feed and food products for global markets. The company’s proprietary technology platform primarily consists of four components, such as micro-crop selection and testing, growth and harvesting techniques, processing technology, and control systems. Using indigenous, non-genetically modified plants from the Lemnaceae family, the company’s technology platform enables the production of Lemna Protein Concentrate (LPC) and Lemna Meal (LM). In the near-term, the company is positioning LPC and LM in animal feed markets, as fish meal and alfalfa meal alternatives, respectively. Agreements In May 2012, the company entered into a license agreement with Lemna Asia, which provides for the construction and operation of a pilot-scale bioreactor (of approximately 1 hectare) in the Perak region of Malaysia for testing purposes, and a framework for the subsequent, incremental construction and operation of a commercial-scale unit (approximately 4,800 hectares), which might consist of modules in different locations in Malaysia. In August 2012, the company entered into a license agreement with FertiGreen S.A. (a subsidiary of Probac S.A.), which provides a framework for the incremental construction and operation of a commercial-scale unit (approximately 4,800 hectares) in Ecuador. Strategy The company’s strategy is to license and provide management support for production facilities at locations with suitable climates for its technology to achieve maximum productivity, which are located within equatorial and tropical regions. The company’s product strategy is to enable customer licensees to sell its LPC product in the global animal feed market as a fish meal alternative and its LM product in the global animal feed market as an alternative to alfalfa meal. History The company was founded in 2006. It was formerly known as PetroAlgae Inc. and changed its name to Parabel Inc. in 2012.
