Operating Groups The company’s business is primarily operated through four operating groups: Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer, Lanier Clothes and Ben Sherman. Tommy Bahama Tommy Bahama designs, sources, markets and distributes men's and women's sportswear and related products. The target consumers of Tommy Bahama are primarily affluent men and women age 35 and older who embrace a relaxed and casual approach to daily living. Tommy Bahama products can be found in the company’s Tommy Bahama stores and on its Tommy Bahama e-commerce Website,, as well as in department stores and independent specialty stores throughout the United States. The company also operates Tommy Bahama restaurants and licenses the Tommy Bahama name for various product categories. During 2013, the company utilized approximately 210 suppliers, which are primarily located in China, to manufacture its Tommy Bahama products. The company operates a Tommy Bahama distribution center in Auburn, Washington. It utilizes third party distribution centers for its Asian and Australian operations. Direct to Consumer Operations: The company’s Tommy Bahama direct to consumer channels consist of retail store, e-commerce and restaurant operations. The company’s direct to consumer strategy for the Tommy Bahama brand includes locating and operating full-price retail stores in upscale malls, lifestyle shopping centers, resort destinations and brand appropriate street locations. As of February 1, 2014, the company operated 14 restaurants, generally adjacent to a Tommy Bahama full-price retail store location. The company’s customers include Macy's and Nordstrom's. Tommy Bahama products are available in approximately 2,000 retail locations. The company maintains Tommy Bahama apparel sales offices and showrooms in various locations, including New York and Seattle, to facilitate sales to its wholesale customers. Its Tommy Bahama wholesale operations utilize a sales force primarily consisting of independent commissioned sales representatives. Licensing Operations: Third party license arrangements for the company’s Tommy Bahama products include various product categories, such as men's and women's watches; men's and women's eyewear; men's belts and socks; men's and women's headwear; sleepwear; shampoo, soap and bath amenities; ceiling fans; rugs; fabrics; leather goods and gifts; luggage; fragrances; indoor furniture; outdoor furniture and related products; bedding and bath linens; table top accessories; candles; and tumblers. The company enters into certain international license agreements which allow those licensees to distribute certain Tommy Bahama branded products within certain countries or regions. As of February 1, 2014, it had one such agreement for the United Arab Emirates. All of the products sold by the licensee are identical to the products sold in the company’s own Tommy Bahama stores. In addition to selling Tommy Bahama goods to wholesale accounts, the licensee operates three retail stores. Seasonality: Typically, the demand in the direct to consumer operations, including sales at the company’s own stores and e-commerce site, for Tommy Bahama products in its principal markets is generally higher in the spring, summer and holiday seasons and lower in the fall season.
