rred from the company and Siemens at the formation of the business as Nokia Siemens Networks. Its intellectual property rights portfolio includes standard-essential patents and patent applications, which have been declared to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute and other Standards Developing Organizations as essential to standards, including LTE, WCDMA, GSM, and other standards. In addition, Nokia Networks holds copyright registrations relating to certain aspects of its products and services. Competition: Nokia Networks competes primarily with Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Samsung, and ZTE. Nokia Networks also competes with IT companies, such as Cisco Systems and Oracle. HERE HERE engages in the mapping and location intelligence business. HERE builds high-definition (HD) maps and combines them with cloud technology to enable rich, real-time location experiences in a range of connected devices from smartphones and tablets to wearables and vehicles. HERE already aggregates data related to parking, gas prices, traffic and weather, among other things, and the company sees further opportunities in a world where various devices, including phones, tablets, and cars, are connected. The company also intends to leverage HERE’s location cloud to deliver HD maps and other services to power an entirely new class of driver experiences, starting with highly automated vehicles. HERE delivers precise and up-to-date maps, a location platform, and location experiences across multiple screens and operating systems. HERE offers maps for approximately 190 countries, voice guided navigation for 99 countries in approximately 50 languages and live traffic information for 44 countries. HERE also has a fleet of data collection vehicles, which help produce maps with centimeter-level precision. HERE’s customer base includes various major companies from the automotive, mobile, Internet, and consumer electronics industries. In the automotive space, HERE is the clear market leader, providing maps for the embedded navigation systems in four out of every five new vehicles sold in North America and Europe. In 2014, this amounted to approximately 13 million new vehicle licenses. The company’s customers could license all or parts of the HERE offering, such as map content, HERE’s location platform, or specific location experiences. The platform is device and operating system agnostic and includes functionalities, such as routing, traffic and positioning, a digital 3D reference model of the world, the development tools with which customers could create their own experiences on top of its map, and the analytical tools to make sense of location-based data. HERE is transforming its map from a static, two-dimensional form akin to a digital version of a paper map and further into a three-dimensional digital representation of the world, rich in real-time and contextually-relevant information drawn from both real-world and digital sources. In 2014, HERE acquired Medio Systems Inc., a pioneer in the emerging field of real-time predictive analytics, to enable HERE to innovate in contextual mapmaking and deliver on its vision to create maps and location services across screens and operating systems that change according to the situation. In 2014, HERE focused its strategy in de-prioritizing certain direct-to-consumer activities and focused more of resources on its work for customers who are in the consumer markets, such as Microsoft (Microsoft International Holdings B.V.) and Samsung. Sales and Marketing : HERE’s core business is licensing content and platform technologies, and it has agreements with various major automotive companies, such as BMW, Continental Corporation, Daimler, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo; primary enterprises, such as FedEx, Oracle, and SAP; and Internet and technology companies, including Amazon, Baidu, Microsoft, Samsung, and Yahoo!. HERE’s map content powers four out of five in-car navigation systems in North America and Europe, and its location platform is used by major Internet companies. R&D: HERE’s business is R&D-intensive with total R&D expenses amounted to
