American National Bankshares Inc. operates as the bank holding company for American National Bank and Trust Company. The company provides an array of financial products and services, including commercial, mortgage, and consumer banking; trust and investment services; and insurance. As of December 31, 2014, the operations of the company are conducted at 24 banking offices and 2 loan production offices in Roanoke, Virginia and Raleigh, North Carolina. Its services are also provided through 31 ATMs, ‘Online Banking,’ and ‘Telephone Banking’. Loans The company’s loan portfolio consists primarily of commercial and residential real estate loans, commercial loans to small and medium-sized businesses, construction and land development loans, and home equity loans. Investment Portfolio The company’s investment portfolio consists of investments, such as federal agency, mortgage-backed, and state and municipal securities. Deposits The company's deposits consist primarily of checking, money market, savings, and consumer and commercial time deposits. Regulations The company is qualified as a bank holding company (BHC) within the meaning of the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956, as amended (the BHC Act), and is registered as such with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (the FRB). As a bank holding company, the company is subject to supervision, regulation and examination by the FRB and is required to file various reports and additional information with the FRB. It is also registered under the bank holding company laws of Virginia and is subject to supervision, regulation and examination by the Virginia State Corporation Commission (the SCC). The bank is a federally chartered national bank and is a member of the Federal Reserve System. It is subject to federal regulation by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (the OCC), the FRB, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
