International Production: The company has an approximate 62% interest in a joint venture in Paranagua, Brazil, which includes a plant that produces up to 500,000 tonnes per year of single superphosphate (SSP) and granulated SSP crop nutrients by mixing sulfuric acid with purchased phosphate rock. Potash segment The company mines and processes potash in Canada and the United States and sells potash in North America and internationally. The company’s potash products are marketed worldwide to crop nutrient manufacturers, distributors and retailers, as well as used in the manufacture of mixed crop nutrients, and animal feed ingredients. The company also sells potash to customers for industrial use. In addition, potash products are used for de-icing and as a water softener regenerant. In 2014, the company operated three potash mines in Canada, including two shaft mines with a total of three production shafts and one solution mine, as well as two potash mines in the United States, including one shaft mine and one solution mine. Canadian Mines: The company operates three Canadian potash facilities all located in the southern half of the Province of Saskatchewan, including its solution mine at Belle Plaine, two interconnected mine shafts at Esterhazy shaft mine and a shaft mine at Colonsay. United States Mines: In the United States, the company has a shaft mine located in Carlsbad, New Mexico. At the Carlsbad facility, the company mines and refines potash from 77,103 acres of mineral rights. Sales and Distribution The United States and Canada: The company sells to wholesale distributors, retail chains, cooperatives, independent retailers and national accounts. It markets Mosaic produced phosphate and potash products for customers who in turn resell the product into the distribution channel or directly to farmers in the United States and Canada. The company’s distribution operations in the United States also include leased distribution space or contractual throughput agreements in other key geographical areas, such as California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin. Its Canadian customers include independent dealers and national accounts. International: Outside of the United States and Canada, the company markets Phosphates segment’s products through its own international distribution activities, as well as a salesforce focused on geographies outside of North America. Its sales outside of the United States and Canada are made through Canpotex, Limited (Canpotex). The company’s international distribution operations also purchase phosphates, potash and nitrogen products from unrelated third parties, which it either uses to produce blended crop nutrients (Blends) or for resale. Other Products: The Phosphates segment supplies animal feed ingredients for poultry and livestock to customers in North America, Latin America and Asia. Its potash sales to non-agricultural users are primarily to large industrial accounts and the animal feed industry. Additionally, the company sells potash for de-icing and as a water softener regenerant, as well as fluorosilicic acid for water fluoridation. History The Mosaic company was founded in 2004.
