In certain areas of Russia, it competes with Tele2, and Rostelecom and its subsidiaries, such as CenterTelecom, SibirTelecom, Dalsvyaz, Uralsvyazinform, Volga Telecom, North-West Telecom, Southern Telecommunications Company, and Dagsvyazinform. In Ukraine, the company competes primarily with Kyivstar and Orange (France Telecom). In Armenia, the company competes with ArmenTel, a fixed line and mobile operator wholly owned by Vimpelcom. In Turkmenistan, it competes with Altyn Asyr. History Mobile TeleSystems OJSC was founded in 1993.
