Cheniere Energy, Inc., an energy company, engages in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) related businesses. Segments The company operates through two segments, LNG Terminal Business, and LNG and Natural Gas Marketing Business. LNG Terminal Business This segment is focusing the company’s development efforts on two LNG terminal projects that are under construction, such as the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in western Cameron Parish, Louisiana, less than 4 miles from the Gulf Coast on the Sabine-Neches Waterway; and the Corpus Christi LNG terminal near Corpus Christi, Texas. Through Cheniere Partners, the company has constructed and is operating regasification facilities at the Sabine Pass LNG terminal and are developing and constructing the natural gas liquefaction facilities (SPL Project). The company owns 100% of the general partner interest in Cheniere Partners and 80.1% of Cheniere Holdings, which owns a 55.9% limited partner interest in Cheniere Partners. The company owns a 100% interest in the CCL Project. Regasification Facilities: The Sabine Pass LNG terminal has operational regasification capacity of approximately 4.0 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) and aggregate LNG storage capacity of approximately 16.9 Bcfe. Approximately 2.0 Bcf/d of the regasification capacity at the Sabine Pass LNG terminal has been reserved under two long-term third-party terminal use agreements (TUAs). Each of Total Gas & Power North America, Inc. (Total) and Chevron U.S.A. Inc. has reserved approximately 1.0 Bcf/d of regasification capacity. The remaining approximately 2.0 Bcf/d of capacity has been reserved under a TUA by Sabine Pass Liquefaction. Liquefaction Facilities: The Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project is being developed and constructed at the Sabine Pass LNG terminal adjacent to the existing regasification facilities. The company has received authorization from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (the FERC) to site, construct, and operate Trains (natural gas liquefaction trains) 1 through 4. Customers: As of December 31, 2014, Sabine Pass Liquefaction had various third-party sale and purchase agreements (SPAs), such as BG Gulf Coast LNG, LLC; Gas Natural Aprovisionamientos SDG S.A.; Korea Gas Corporation; GAIL (India) Limited; Total; and Centrica plc. Corpus Christi LNG Terminal Liquefaction Facilities: The CCL Project is being developed and constructed at the Corpus Christi LNG terminal, on approximately 2,000 acres of land that the company owns or controls near Corpus Christi, Texas. In 2015, the company commenced construction of Stage 1 of the CCL Project. Through the CCL Stage III entities, which are separate from the CCH Group, the company is developing two additional Trains and one LNG storage tank at the Corpus Christi LNG terminal adjacent to the CCL Project, along with a second natural gas pipeline. The Corpus Christi liquefaction facilities would be designed for approximately three Trains, with expected aggregate nominal production capacity of approximately 13.5 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG; three LNG storage tanks with capacity of approximately 10.1 Bcfe; and two docks that could accommodate vessels with nominal capacity of approximately 266,000 cubic meters (the ‘Corpus Christi Liquefaction Facilities’). Customers: As of December 31, 2015, Corpus Christi Liquefaction had various third-party SPAs, such as Endesa Generación, S.A.; Iberdrola S.A.; Gas Natural Fenosa LNG SL; Woodside Energy Trading Singapore Pte Ltd; PT Pertamina (Persero); Electricite de France, S.A.; and EDP Energias de Portugal S.A. Governmental Regulation The FERC’s approval under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act of 1938, as amended, as well as various other material governmental and regulatory approvals and permits, are required to site, construct, and operate the company’s liquefaction facilities.
