Segments The company operates through two segments, Solid Capacitors Business Group, and Film and Electrolytic Business Group. Solid Capacitors Business Group This segment primarily produces tantalum, aluminum, polymer, and ceramic capacitors, which are sold worldwide. This segment also produces tantalum powder used in the production of tantalum capacitors. The company’s tantalum product line's product portfolio, process and materials technology, global manufacturing base and on-time delivery capabilities allow the company to serve a range of customers in a group of end markets, including computing, telecommunications, consumer, medical, military, automotive, and general industries. Its ceramic product line offers a line of multilayer ceramic capacitors in various sizes and configurations. Film and Electrolytic Business Group This segment produces film, paper, and wet aluminum electrolytic capacitors. The company supplies film and wet aluminum electrolytic capacitors for custom applications. The company owns KEMET Foil Manufacturing, LLC, which manufactures etched foils utilized as a core component in the manufacture of electrolytic capacitors. This segment primarily serves the industrial, automotive, consumer, and telecom markets. Products Automotive: This industry includes various products, such as adaptive cruise control, high intensity discharge lamp, light emitting diode electronic modules, lane departure warning, rearview camera systems, audio systems, tire pressure monitoring, power train electronics, instrumentation, airbag systems, anti-lock braking and stabilization systems, hybrid and electric drive vehicles, electronic engine control modules, driver comfort controls, and security systems. Communications: This industry includes various products, such as smart phones, telephones, switching equipment, relays, base stations, and wireless infrastructure. Computer-related: This industry includes various products, such as personal computers (laptops, tablets, and netbooks), workstations, servers, mainframes, computer peripheral equipment, power supplies, disk drives, solid state drives, printers, and local area networks. Industrial: This industry includes various products, such as electronic controls, measurement equipment, instrumentation, solar and wind energy generation, and medical electronics. Consumer: This industry includes various products, such as digital media devices, game consoles, televisions, and global positioning systems. Military/Aerospace: This industry includes various products, such as avionics, radar, guidance systems, and satellite communications. Alternative Energy: This industry includes various products, such as wind generation systems, solar generation systems, geothermal generation systems, tidal generation systems, and electric drive vehicles. The company produces a small percentage of capacitors under military specification standards sold for both military and commercial uses. It does not sell any capacitors directly to the United States government. Certain of the company’s customers purchase capacitors for products in the military and aerospace industries. Its customer base also includes electronics manufacturing services providers, such as Celestica Inc.; Flextronics International LTD; Jabil Circuit, Inc.; and Sanmina-SCI Corporation, as well as distributors, including TTI, Inc.; Arrow Electronics, Inc.; and Avnet, Inc. Acquisitions In 2013, KEMET Electronics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the company, acquired a 34% economic interest in NEC TOKIN Corporation, a manufacturer of tantalum capacitors and electro-magnetic, electro-mechanical, and access devices. Patents and Trademarks The company’s trademarks include KEMET and KEMET Charged.
