This segment serves the optical communications and commercial laser markets Optical Communications: The optical communications offerings address the following markets: Telecom, datacom, and consumer and industrial. In the telecom market, the company offers transmission and transport solutions for the synchronous optical network, synchronous-digital-hierarchy and wavelength-division multiplexer (WDM) applications. Transmission products, such as tunable transponder, transceiver and transmitter modules, transmit and receive signals. The company’s transport products, such as ROADMs and other amplifiers, provide switching, routing and conditioning of signals. It also provides components for transport, including passive components such as attenuators, circulators, couplers/splitters/WDMs, gain flattening filters, hybrid interleavers, multiplexer/demultiplexers polarization components, switches and wavelength lockers. For higher data transfer rates of 40G and 100G, the company offers vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs). Its compact arrays offer a solution for the LANs, SANs, broadband Internet and metro-area network applications that depend on high-end routers, switches and cross-connect equipment to handle legacy and IP traffic. In the consumer and industrial markets, the company provides optical technology for 3D sensing systems being used in applications for gaming, computing and home entertainment. The company provides illumination sources, or laser diodes, used to generate infrared or near-infrared light. Lasers: The company’s range of products includes diode-pumped solid-state, fiber, diode, direct-diode and gas lasers, such as argon-ion and helium-neon lasers.
