HollyFrontier Corporation, an independent petroleum refiner, produces light products, such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, specialty lubricant products, and specialty and modified asphalt. Segments The company’s operations are organized into two segments, Refining and Holly Energy Partners, L.P. (HEP). REFINING The company owns and operates 5 complex refineries having an aggregate crude capacity of 443,000 barrels per stream day. Each of its refineries has the complexity to convert discounted, heavy and sour crude oils into a high percentage of gasoline, diesel and other high-value refined products. As of December 31, 2012, the company owned and operated a petroleum refinery in El Dorado, Kansas; two refinery facilities located in Tulsa, Oklahoma; a refinery in Artesia, New Mexico that is operated in conjunction with crude oil distillation and vacuum distillation and other facilities situated 65 miles away in Lovington, New Mexico; a refinery located in Cheyenne, Wyoming; and a refinery in Woods Cross, Utah. The company owned and operated NK Asphalt Partners which operates various asphalt terminals in Arizona and New Mexico; a 50% interest in Sabine Biofuels II, LLC, a biodiesel production facility located in Port Arthur, Texas; and owned a 39% interest in HEP, a consolidated variable interest entity (VIE), which includes its 2% general partner interest. HEP owns and operates logistic assets consisting of petroleum product and crude oil pipelines and terminal, tankage and loading rack facilities that principally support its refining and marketing operations in the Mid-Continent, Southwest and Rocky Mountain regions of the United States and Alon USA, Inc.'s (Alon) refinery in Big Spring, Texas. Additionally, HEP owns a 75% interest in UNEV Pipeline, LLC (UNEV), which owns a 12-inch refined products pipeline from Salt Lake City, Utah to Las Vegas, Nevada, together with terminal facilities in the Cedar City, Utah and North Las Vegas areas (the UNEV Pipeline) and a 25% interest in SLC Pipeline LLC (the SLC Pipeline), which owns a 95-mile intrastate pipeline system that serves refineries in the Salt Lake City area. Customers: The company’s major customers include Shell Oil Products US (Shell) and Sinclair Oil Company (Sinclair). It also serves refiners, convenience store chains, independent marketers and retailers. HEP HEP focuses on acquiring, owning, and operating all of the refined product pipelines and terminalling assets that support refining and marketing operations in the Mid-Continent, Southwest and Rocky Mountain regions of the United States. As of December 31, 2013, HEP's assets included approximately 810 miles of refined product pipelines, including 340 miles of leased pipelines, that transport gasoline, diesel and jet fuel principally from its Navajo Refinery in New Mexico to its customers in the metropolitan and rural areas of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and northern Mexico; approximately 510 miles of refined product pipelines that transport refined products from Alon's Big Spring refinery in Texas to its customers in Texas and Oklahoma; three 65-mile pipelines that transport intermediate feedstocks and crude oil from its Navajo Refinery crude oil distillation and vacuum facilities in Lovington, New Mexico to its petroleum refinery facilities in Artesia, New Mexico; approximately 970 miles of crude oil trunk, gathering and connection pipelines located in west Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma that deliver crude oil to its Navajo Refinery; approximately 10 miles of refined product pipelines that support its Woods Cross Refinery located near Salt Lake City, Utah; gasoline and diesel connecting pipelines that support its Tulsa East facility; five intermediate product and gas pipelines between the Tulsa East and Tulsa West facilities; and crude receiving assets located at its Cheyenne Refinery.
