As of December 31, 2013, the company’s worldwide portfolio consisted of 548 properties (147,388 rooms and units). The company’s service hotels and resorts operate under five brands, such as Park Hyatt, Andaz, Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, and Hyatt Regency. Its two select service brands are Hyatt Place and Hyatt House, an extended stay brand. In 2013, the company introduced the Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara all inclusive resort brands, which marked its entry into the all inclusive resort segment. The company develops, sells, or manages vacation ownership properties in select locations as part of the Hyatt Residence Club. It also manages, provides services to or licenses its trademarks with respect to residential ownership units that are adjacent to a Hyatt portfolio full service hotel. The company consults with third parties in the design and development of such mixed-use projects based on its expertise as a manager and owner of vacation ownership properties, residential properties, and hotels. Its associates, to whom the company refers as members of the Hyatt family, are approximately 95,000 individuals working at its corporate and regional offices, and its managed, franchised and owned properties in 48 countries worldwide. The company’s brands include Park Hyatt, Andaz, Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Hyatt Ziva, Hyatt Zilara, Hyatt Residence Club, and Residential Ownership Units. Customers The company’s primary accounts consist of major corporations; national, state and regional associations; specialty market accounts (social, government, military, educational, religious and fraternal); travel organizations; and a group of individual consumers. Sales The company has global and regional sales offices around the world, including in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., London, Moscow, Hong Kong, Mainz, Mumbai, Delhi, Dubai, Seoul, Shanghai, Sao Paulo, Beijing, Tokyo, Mexico City, Singapore, Jeddah, Cairo and Melbourne. Growth Strategy The company’s growth strategy is to increase market presence; expand its select service presence; increase focus on franchising; utilize its capital and asset base for targeted growth; and pursue strategic acquisitions and alliances. Seasonality The company’s properties in the Americas generate the highest revenues in the second quarter (year ending December 2013) and the lowest in the first quarter. In both ASPAC (Southeast Asia, as well as China, Australia, South Korea and Japan) and in EAME/SW Asia (Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Southwest Asia), the highest revenues are generated in the fourth quarter with the next highest revenues generated in the second quarter. Government Regulation The company’s business operations at the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort and Casino are subject to the licensing and regulatory control of the Departamento pa Asuntonan di Casino, the regulatory agency responsible for gaming licenses and operations in Aruba. For the year ended December 31, 2013, the company engaged in certain activities that are subject to disclosure pursuant to Section 219 of the Iran Threat Reduction and Syria Human Rights Act of 2012 and Section 13(r) of the Exchange Act. Significant Events In February 2014, Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Hegg Companies have announced the opening of Hyatt Place Lincoln/Downtown-Haymarket in Lincoln, Nebraska. In March 2014, Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the opening of Hyatt Place Manatí in Manatí, Puerto Rico. In March 2014, Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a joint venture and related agreements with an affiliate of Desarrolladora Mexicana de Inmuebles, S.A. de C.V. In March 2014, Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced several new Hyatt Place and Hyatt House projects that would introduce these two Hyatt brands to China.
