Divisions The company operates through five business divisions: Wealth Management, Wealth Management Americas, Retail & Corporate, Global Asset Management, and Investment Bank. Wealth Management division This division provides wealthy private clients with investment advice and solutions tailored to their individual needs. The company provides financial services to wealthy private clients worldwide, with the exception of those served by its colleagues in Wealth Management Americas. The company’s clients benefit from a spectrum of resources, ranging from investment management solutions to wealth planning and corporate finance advice, as well as the specific offerings. The company’s guided architecture model gives clients access to a range of products from third-party providers that complement its own products. The company provides wealth management solutions, products, and services to wealthy private clients, as well as financial intermediaries. In the Asia Pacific, the company is accelerating its growth with a focus on Hong Kong and Singapore, the major financial centers in the region. The company is also developing its presence in major onshore markets, such as Japan and Taiwan, and investing further in its local footprint in China to help capture long-term growth opportunities. In the emerging markets, the company is focused on major growth markets, such as Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, Russia, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. Its coverage for such clients through its booking centers in Switzerland, the U.S., and the U.K. In 2014, the company extended its Swiss platform and offering to its German domestic business. In Switzerland, the company collaborates with its colleagues in the retail, corporate, asset management, and investment banking businesses. This creates opportunities to expand its business through client referrals and generates efficiencies by enabling the company to make use of its branch network, which includes 100 wealth management offices. Competition The company’s major global competitors include the private banking operations of Credit Suisse AG (Credit Suisse), JP Morgan, HSBC, BNP Paribas Investment Partners, Deutsche Bank, Julius Bär, and Citigroup. In the European domestic markets, the company primarily competes with the private banking operations of large local banks, such as Barclays Capital, Inc. (Barclays) in the U.K.; Deutsche Bank in Germany; and UniCredit in Italy. In the Asia Pacific, the private banking franchises of HSBC, Citigroup, and Credit Suisse are the company’s major competitors. Wealth Management Americas division This division develops advice-based relationships through its financial advisors, who deliver an integrated set of wealth management solutions designed to address the needs of high net worth and ultra high net worth individuals and families. The company’s business includes the domestic U.S. and Canadian business, as well as international business booked in the U.S. This division consists of branch networks in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, and Uruguay, with 6,997 financial advisors as of December 31, 2014. In the U.S. and Puerto Rico, the company operates primarily through its subsidiaries. Securities and operations activities are conducted primarily through two registered broker-dealers, such as UBS Financial Services Inc. and UBS Financial Services Incorporated of Puerto Rico. The company’s banking services in the U.S. include those conducted through the UBS AG (the company’s subsidiary) branches and UBS Bank USA (UBS AG’s subsidiary), a federally regulated bank in Utah, which provides Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)-insured deposit accounts, collateralized lending services, mortgages and credit cards. Canadian wealth management and banking operations are conducted through UBS Bank (Canada), and Uruguayan wealth management operations are conducted through UBS Financial Services Montevideo.
