The company’s products reach its customers primarily in 2 ways: through its nationwide direct-store-delivery network of approximately 470 delivery routes, 111 branch warehouses and 5 distribution centers, and through the distribution channels of its national account and institutional customers. The company offers value-added services to its foodservice customers, including beverage equipment installation and service; menu solutions wherein it recommend products, how these products are prepared in the kitchen and presented on the menu; and hassle-free inventory and product procurement management. The company also provides comprehensive coffee programs to its national account customers, including private brand development, green coffee procurement, category management, and supply chain management. In January 2015, the company completed the acquisition of Rae' Launo Corporation relating to its direct-store-delivery and in-room distribution business in the Southeastern United States. The company manufactures and distributes products under its owned brands, as well as under private labels on behalf of certain customers. Its owned brand products are sold primarily into the foodservice channel. The company’s primary brands include Farmer Brothers, Artisan Collection by Farmer Brothers, Superior, Metropolitan, Cain's and McGarvey. Its product line is specifically focused on meeting the needs of the markets it serves. The company’s product line of approximately 2,700 stock keeping units (excluding private label), includes roasted coffee, liquid coffee, coffee-related products, such as coffee filters, sugar and creamers, assorted iced and hot teas, cappuccino, cocoa, spices, gelatins and puddings, soup bases, dressings, gravy and sauce mixes, pancake and biscuit mixes, and jellies and preserves. Distribution The company serves its customers from five distribution centers strategically located for national coverage. Customers The company serves various customers, from small restaurants and donut shops to large institutional buyers like restaurant chains, hotels, casinos, hospitals, foodservice providers, convenience stores, gourmet coffee houses, bakery/cafe chains, national drugstore chains, large regional and national grocery and specialty food retailers and quick service restaurants. The company serves healthcare facilities and other foodservice providers, as well as private brand retailers. Competition The company faces competition from many sources, including the institutional foodservice divisions of multi-national manufacturers of retail products, such as J.M. Smucker (Folgers Coffee), Dunkin' Brands Group, Inc., and KraftHeinz (Maxwell House Coffee); wholesale foodservice distributors, such as Sysco Corporation; U.S. Foods, regional institutional coffee roasters, such as S&D Coffee & Tea and Boyd Coffee Company; and specialty coffee suppliers, such as Keurig Green Mountain, Inc., Rogers Family Company, Distant Lands Coffee, Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee, Inc., Starbucks Coffee Company, and Peet’s Coffee & Tea. As many of its customers are small foodservice operators, the company also competes with cash and carry and club stores, such as Costco, Sam's Club, and Restaurant Depot. History Farmer Bros. Co., a Delaware corporation, was founded in 1912. The company was incorporated in California in 1923 and reincorporated in Delaware in 2004.
