Global Eagle Entertainment Inc. provides content, connectivity and digital media solutions for airlines. Through a comprehensive product and services platform, the company provides approximately 150 domestic and international airlines with a range of in-flight solutions, including Wi-Fi, movies, television, music, interactive software, as well as portable in-flight entertainment (IFE) solutions, content management services, e-commerce solutions and original content development. Segments The company operates in the following segments, Connectivity and Content. Connectivity The Connectivity segment provides its airline partners and their passengers with Wi-Fi connectivity via satellite transmissions. The company’s connectivity system enables aircraft to connect to orbiting Ku-band satellites and to communicate with existing satellite ground earth stations. The company’s connectivity solution provides airline passengers with Wi-Fi based Internet access, live television, on-demand content, shopping, and flight and destination information. Hughes Network Systems, LLC, a global satellite services company, provides the company exclusive satellite coverage across North America. In 2014, the company entered into a multi-year agreement with New Skies Satellites B.V. (SES), to provide Ku-band satellite coverage beyond its existing satellite commitments. Its connectivity solution is installed on 624 aircraft, as of December 31, 2014. As of December 31, 2014, its Connectivity solutions are being utilized by the following customers: Air China, NOK Air, and Air France / Orange. The combined satellite coverage with these customers spans from Alaska to Japan, covering North America, the North Atlantic, Europe, and a portion of the Middle East, Russia and Asia. Products and Services AIRTIME LIVE - Satellite-Based Wi-Fi Internet Connectivity The company offers AIRTIME LIVE, a satellite-based Wi-Fi Internet connectivity solution, in the United States, and where permitted, in other areas outside the United States where the company provides service. This service allows airline passengers to connect to the Internet through their personal Wi-Fi enabled devices gate-to-gate. The company provides its airline customers flexibility in how they want to provide and price the service to their passengers. In order to implement its connectivity services, the company also provides its airline customers the following: Connectivity Equipment - The company sells and leases equipment that allows its satellite-based services to operate on aircraft. The company’s equipment is shipped and sold as a single kit, with components of the kits separately priced for future ordering. Significant components of its equipment kits include radomes, antennas, modems and provisional and activation packages. The company offers installation support to its customers’ in-house or designated third party installers. Regulatory Support - The company obtains Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs), which are certificates issued when an applicant has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or similar international regulatory approval to modify an aircraft from its original type certificate approval. Post-Implementation Support - Once its equipment is installed and operational, the company provides technical and network support, which includes 24/7 operational assistance and monitoring of the connectivity performance and bandwidth of its satellite-based services on each aircraft. Live Television Programming The company offers live television programming whereby airline passengers can watch a range of live television channels through their personal Wi-Fi enabled devices. Its live television product includes various programming options, such as news channels, major broadcast networks, sports and specialty cable network channels. The company also offers a selection of video-on-demand content in connection with its live television channels. Digital Media Included in its Wi-Fi Internet services are digital media services, which include a Web home page and various services for airline passengers to choose from once logged into its Wi-Fi Inter
