During 2009, T-Mobile USA invested in network infrastructure in certain markets to utilize the Advanced Wireless Services spectrum in the 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequency bands. Competition: The United States operating segment faces intense competition in the United States mobile telecommunications market from the three other national mobile providers, Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. EUROPE The United Kingdom T-Mobile U.K. offers mobile telecommunications services to individual and business customers in the United Kingdom. Customers of Virgin Mobile, an MVNO, are included in T-Mobile UK’s reported customer base as prepay customers. As an MVNO, Virgin Mobile purchases airtime minutes and basic mobile services from T-Mobile U.K. and resells these minutes and services under the ‘Virgin Mobile’ brand name. M2M cards are also included in the T-Mobile U.K. customer base. Competition: In the U.K., T-Mobile U.K. faces intense competition from mobile network operators Vodafone, O2, Orange and ‘3’.
