Significant Events In July 2015, Nokia announced its Nokia Networks subsidiary has entered into a research collaboration with NTT DOCOMO to explore opportunities in 5G radio technology. The firm said the partners would evaluate the potential of Nokia Networks' 5G radio technology at lower frequencies. The collaboration would also focus on the deployment of 5G baseband to achieve 10 Gbps connectivity, demonstrate LTE interworking using Nokia Networks' commercial Single RAN Advanced hardware, as well as licensed assisted access. In February 2016, NTT DOCOMO, Inc. has set up DOCOMO Digital Ltd. in London as a new global business operation. It is the European based operation unit of NTT DOCOMO and an advanced mobile commerce ecosystem-enabling platformer which aims to encourage financial inclusion for citizens worldwide by bringing together mobile network operators, digital and real-world merchants, financial services providers, regulators and other parties to make consumer transactions convenient, safe and with universal coverage. In February 2016, NTT DOCOMO, INC. and MediaTek announced a joint effort to drive 5G technology development. The two companies would collaborate on developing new 5G air interface and chipsets required for 5G devices, raising spectrum efficiency and increasing data capacity. History The company was founded in 1991. It was incorporated and registered in 1991. The company was formerly known as NTT Mobile Communications Planning Co., Ltd., and changed its name to NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc. in 1992. Further, the company changed its name to NTT DoCoMo, Inc. in 2000 and then to NTT DOCOMO, INC. in 2010.
