Cinemark Holdings, Inc. operates in the motion picture exhibition industry, with theatres in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, and Bolivia. As of December 31, 2014, the company operated 495 theatres and 5,676 screens in the U.S. and Latin America and approximately 264 million patrons attended its theatres worldwide. As of December 31, 2014, the United States circuit had 335 theatres and 4,499 screens in 41 states and its international circuit had 160 theatres and 1,177 screens. The company develops and expands new platforms and market adaptive concepts for its theatre circuit, including NextGen, CinèArts, Cinemark Bistro, Cinemark Reserve and other premium concepts, such as its Cinemark XD Extreme Digital Cinema (XD). The company’s NextGen theatre complexes have wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor screens in every auditorium, along with the digital projection and sound technologies. These theatres also have an XD auditorium. The company’s CinèArts locations provide moviegoers with the selection of art and independent cinema in an unique environment. The Cinemark Bistro locations offer in-theatre dining with food options, such as fresh wraps, hot sandwiches, burgers, and gourmet pizzas, and a selection of beers, wines, and frozen cocktails. During 2014, the company opened one Cinemark Reserve theatre in the U.S., which features a VIP area with luxury seating and other amenities, along with various food and beverage products. The company has a similar VIP concept in 5 other domestic locations and in 38 of its international auditoriums, referred to locally as either Cinemark Premiere or Cinemark Prime. Strategy The company continues to seek growth opportunities by building or acquiring high-quality theatres that meet its strategic, financial and demographic criteria. The company also monitors economic and market trends to ensure its existing theatres offer a range of products, prices and platforms that satisfy patrons and to develop new concepts to adapt to changes in preferences. Seasonality The company’s revenues have historically been seasonal, coinciding with the timing of releases of motion pictures by the major distributors. Generally, the most successful motion pictures have been released during the summer, extending from May to July, and during the holiday season, extending from early November through year-end. Regulations The company is subject to various general regulations applicable to its operations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and regulations issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that require nutrition labels for certain menu items. Competition The company’s primary U.S. competitors include Regal, AMC and Carmike Cinemas, Inc. and its primary international competitors, include Kinoplex (GSR), Cinépolis, Village Cines, Cine Colombia and Cinemundo.
