The company serves a market of approximately 170 million consumers throughout Belgium, continental France, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. Products The company conducts business primarily under agreements with The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC). It has bottling rights within its territories for various beverages, including products with the name ‘Coca-Cola.’ It manufactures approximately 94 percent of finished product the company sells from concentrates and syrups that the company buys. The remainder of the products the company sells is purchased in finished form. Its products are principally distributed to its customers’ central warehouses and through wholesalers who deliver to retailers. The company’s other main brands include Diet Coke/Coca-Cola light, Coca-Cola Zero, Fanta, and Capri-Sun. Its products are available in different package types and sizes (single-serve and multi-serve), including aluminum and steel cans, glass, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and aluminum bottles, pouches, and bag-in-box for fountain use. Product Licensing and Bottling Agreements with Other Licensors In Great Britain, the company distributes Schweppes, Dr Pepper, Oasis, and Schweppes Abbey Well (collectively the Schweppes Products) pursuant to agreements with an affiliate of TCCC. These agreements cover the marketing, sale, and distribution of Schweppes Products in Great Britain. The company distributes Capri-Sun beverages in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg through a distribution agreement with a related entity of WILD GmbH & Co. KG (WILD). It also produces and distributes Capri-Sun beverages in Great Britain through a manufacturing and license agreement. The company distributes Monster beverages in all of its territories (with the exception of Norway) under distribution agreements between the company and Monster Beverage Corporation. In Great Britain, the company also produces selected Monster beverages through a manufacturing agreement with Monster Energy Limited. The company distributes Ocean Spray products in France, subject to an agreement with Ocean Spray International, Inc. In 2011, the company entered into an agreement with SAB Miller International BV to manufacture, distribute, market, and sell Appletiser products in Great Britain. The company also distributes Fernandes products in the Netherlands. It has the right to distribute Fernandes products in the remainder of Europe and Africa. Suppliers The company’s supplier includes TCCC. Seasonality Sales of the company’s products are seasonal, with the second and third calendar quarters accounting for higher unit sales of products than the first and fourth quarters. In a typical year, the company earns approximately 60 percent of annual operating income during the second and third quarters of the year. Regulations The company is subject to and operates in accordance with the provisions of the European Union Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Under the WEEE Directive, companies that put electrical and electronic equipment (such as its cold-drink equipment) on the European Union market are responsible for the costs of collection, treatment, recovery, and disposal of their own products. Competition The company competes with bottlers and distributors of products of PepsiCo, Inc.; Nestlé S.A.; Groupe Danone S.A.; and other private-label products.
