Casey’s General Stores, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates convenience stores under the name ‘Casey’s General Store’ in 14 Midwestern states, primarily in Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois. The company also operates one store selling primarily tobacco products. The stores carry a selection of food (including freshly prepared foods, such as pizza, donuts, and sandwiches), beverages, tobacco products, health and beauty aids, automotive products, and other nonfood items. In addition, all but one Casey’s store offers fuel for sale on a self-service basis. As of April 30, 2015, the company had a total of 1,878 stores in operation. The company operates a central warehouse, Casey’s Distribution Center, adjacent to its corporate headquarters in Ankeny, Iowa, through which the company supplies grocery and general merchandise items to its stores. Each Casey’s General Store typically carries approximately 3,000 food and nonfood items. Majority of the products offered are those generally found in a supermarket. The selection is generally limited to one or two brands of each item stocked. Majority of its staple foodstuffs are nationally advertised brands. Stores sell regional brands of dairy and bakery products, and approximately 87% of the stores offer beer. The company’s nonfood items include tobacco products, health and beauty aids, school supplies, housewares, pet supplies, and automotive products. All but one Casey’s General Stores offer gasoline or diesel for sale on a self-service basis. Gasoline and diesel are sold under the Casey’s name. As of April 30, 2015, the company was selling donuts prepared on store premises in approximately 98% of its stores in addition to cookies, brownies, and other bakery items. The company installs donut-making equipment in all newly constructed stores. The company operates approximately 850 stores on a 24-hour basis. Although pizza is the company’s prepared food offering, the company continues to expand its prepared food product line, which includes ham and cheese sandwiches, pork and chicken fritters, sausage sandwiches, chicken tenders, pizza rolls, popcorn chicken, breakfast croissants and biscuits, breakfast pizza, hash browns, quarter-pound hamburgers and cheeseburgers, and potato cheese bites. The newly constructed stores and majority of the remodeled stores offer made-to-order sub sandwiches. Subsidiaries Casey’s Marketing Company, Casey’s Services Company, Casey’s Retail Company, CGS Sales Corp., and Tobacco City, Inc. are wholly owned subsidiaries of the company. Casey’s Retail Company operates stores in Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. It also holds the rights to the Casey’s trademark and trade name. Casey’s Marketing Company owns and has responsibility for the operation of stores in Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Casey’s Marketing Company supplies all stores with groceries, food, health and beauty aids, and general merchandise from the company’s Distribution Center. Casey’s Services Company provides various construction and transportation services for all stores. CGS Sales Corp. operates one store in Iowa and one in Nebraska. Tobacco City Inc. operates one store in North Dakota. Service Marks The name ‘Casey’s General Store’ and the service mark consisting of the Casey’s design logo (with the words ‘Casey’s General Store’) are the company’s registered service marks under federal law. Competition Convenience store chains competing in the larger towns served by the company include Quik Trip and Kwik Trip. History Casey's General Stores, Inc. was founded in 1959. The company was incorporated in Iowa in 1967.
