The company provides an integrated platform of brokerage and investment advisory services to approximately 14,000 independent financial advisors, including financial advisors at approximately 700 financial institutions (its ‘advisors’) throughout the United States, enabling them to provide their retail investors (their ‘clients’) with financial advice. The company also supports approximately 4,400 financial advisors who are affiliated and licensed with insurance companies through customized clearing services, advisory platforms, and technology solutions. The company is a financial services provider to independent advisors, RIAs, financial institutions, and retirement plan business. Through its advisors, the company distributes financial products and services in the United States. The company’s subsidiary, LPL Financial LLC (LPL Financial), is a clearing broker-dealer and an investment advisor that primarily transacts business as an agent for the company’s advisors on behalf of their clients through a range of financial products and services. The company’s subsidiary, Fortigent Holdings Company, Inc. and its subsidiaries (Fortigent), provides solutions and consulting services to RIAs, banks, and trust companies that serve high-net-worth clients. The company, through its subsidiary, The Private Trust Company, N.A. (PTC), offers trust administration, investment management oversight, and RIA custodial services for estates and families. The company’s subsidiary, Independent Advisers Group Corporation (IAG), offers an investment advisory solution to insurance companies to support their financial advisors who are licensed with them. The company’s subsidiary, LPL Insurance Associates, Inc. (LPLIA), operates as a brokerage general agency that offers life, long-term care, and disability insurance sales and services. Advisor Relationships The company’s advisors build long-term relationships with their clients in communities across the U.S. by guiding them through the complexities of investment decisions, retirement solutions, financial planning, and wealth-management. Its advisors support approximately 4.5 million client accounts. The company’s services support the evolution of its advisors’ businesses over time and are designed to change as its advisors' needs change. The majority of the company’s advisors are entrepreneurial independent contractors that are primarily located in rural and suburban areas. LPL Financial also supports approximately 320 RIA practices (independent RIAs) with approximately 2,700 advisors who conduct their advisory business through separate entities by establishing their own RIAs, rather than using its corporate RIA. The company provides support to approximately 2,200 financial advisors at approximately 700 banks and credit unions nationwide. A subset of its advisors provides advice and serves group retirement plans primarily for small and mid-size businesses. Product and Solution Access The company provides its advisors with open architecture access to a range of commission, fee-based, cash, and money market products and services. Its product due diligence group conducts diligence on all of the company’s product offerings, including annuities, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and alternative investments, including real estate investment trusts. The company’s platform provides access to approximately 13,000 financial products, manufactured by 900 product sponsors. The company enters into arrangements with these product sponsors pursuant to the sponsor’s standard distribution agreement. The sales and administration of these products are facilitated through the company’s technology solutions that allow its advisors to access client accounts, product information, asset allocation models, investment recommendations, and economic insight, as well as to perform trade execution.
