Concerts This segment principally engages in the global promotion of live music events in the company’s owned or operated venues and in rented third-party venues, the operation and management of music venues, and the production of music festivals worldwide. The company promoted 22,800 live music events in 2014, including artists, such as One Direction, Jay-Z & Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, and Lady Gaga; and through festivals, such as Electric Daisy Carnival, Rock Werchter, Reading and T in the Park. As a promoter, the company primarily sells tickets and pays artists under one of various formulas, including a fixed guaranteed amount and/or a percentage of ticket sales or event profits. For each event, the company either uses a venue that it owns or operates, or rents a third-party venue. As a venue operator, the company generates revenue primarily from the sale of concessions, parking, premium seating, rental income, venue sponsorships and ticket rebates or service charges earned on tickets sold through its internal ticketing operations or by third parties under ticketing agreements. As a festival producer, the company books artists, secures festival sites, provides for third-party production services, sells tickets, and advertises events to attract fans. The company also provides or arranges for third-parties to provide operational services as needed, such as concessions, merchandising, and security. The company earns revenue from the sale of tickets and pays artists a fixed guaranteed amount. It also earns revenue from the sale of concessions, camping fees, festival sponsorships and ticket rebates or service charges earned on tickets sold.
