(Ziggo Group Holding) and Unitymedia GmbH (Unitymedia), each a wholly-owned subsidiary; and Telenet Group Holding N.V. (Telenet), a 56.9%-owned subsidiary, provides video, broadband Internet, fixed-line telephony and mobile services in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, respectively. The company, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, UPC Holding B.V. (UPC Holding), provides video, broadband Internet and fixed-line telephony services in seven other European countries and mobile services in four other European countries. In Chile, the company provides video, broadband Internet, fixed-line telephony and mobile services through its wholly-owned subsidiary, VTR GlobalCom SpA (VTR). Business Broadband Distribution The company offers various broadband services through its cable distribution systems, including video, broadband Internet and fixed-line telephony, and in certain of the company’s operations, it offers mobile services. The company designs these services to enable its customers to access the digital world on their own terms and at their own pace. In select markets, the company also offers video services through DTH or through multichannel multipoint (microwave) distribution systems (MMDS). The company’s consumer brands include Virgin Media, Ziggo, Unitymedia, Telenet, UPC Cablecom, UPC, VTR and in Puerto Rico, Liberty. In 2016, the company would use solely the UPC brand in Switzerland, discontinuing the UPC Cablecom brand. During 2015, the company launched a plan, which it calls the Liberty 3.0 program. The Liberty 3.0 program seeks to capitalize on revenue opportunities associated with Network Extensions, mobile and business services. ‘Network Extensions’ refers to network extension programs pursuant to which the company would connect additional homes and businesses to its broadband communications network in the U.K., Central and Eastern Europe, Germany, Chile and certain other markets. Residential Services Video The company’s cable operations offer a range of video services, including basic and premium programming, an electronic programming guide, high definition (HD) channels, HD receivers, digital video recorders (DVR) and HD DVRs. These services could be viewed on the television, and in most markets, through Internet connected devices in the home and whenever there is Internet connectivity. In certain markets, the company’s advanced service offerings include video-on-demand (VoD) and advanced next generation set-top boxes, such as the multimedia home gateway ‘Horizon TV’ or the ‘TiVo’ service offered by Virgin Media in the U.K. or the ‘Digital TV’ service with a Horizon-like user interface offered by Telenet in Belgium. These services, together with DVR and HD DVR functionality, give the company’s customers the ability to control when they watch their programming. In several of the company’s markets, it has improved pay-per-view programming on channels that the company distributes and through VoD.
