The Mosaic Company is engaged in producing and marketing concentrated phosphate and potash crop nutrients. The company serves customers in approximately 40 countries. The company mines potash in Saskatchewan and New Mexico. It has strategic equity investments in a phosphate rock mine in the Bayovar region in Peru, and a joint venture to develop a phosphate rock mine and chemical complexes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Segments The company’s activities are organized into two segments, Phosphates and Potash. PHOSPHATES This segment produces integrated phosphate worldwide, and produces and markets phosphate-based animal feed ingredients in the United States. The Phosphates segment also includes international distribution activities. Its distribution activities include sales offices, port terminals and warehouses in the United States, Canada, and other international countries. In addition, the international distribution activities include blending, bagging or production facilities in Brazil, China, India, Argentina and Chile. The company’s phosphate crop nutrient products are marketed worldwide to crop nutrient manufacturers, distributors, retailers and farmers. Its principal phosphate crop nutrient products are as follows: Diammonium Phosphate (18-46-0): Diammonium Phosphate is a high-analysis phosphate crop nutrient worldwide. It is produced by first combining phosphoric acid with anhydrous ammonia. This product is a solid granular product that is applied directly or blended with other solid plant nutrient products such as urea and potash. Monoammonium Phosphate (11-52-0): Monoammonium Phosphate is a high-analysis phosphate crop nutrient and phosphate product worldwide. It is also produced by first combining phosphoric acid with anhydrous ammonia in a reaction vessel. The resulting slurry is then pumped into the granulation plant where it is reacted with additional phosphoric acid to produce the product. MicroEssentials is a value-added ammoniated phosphate product that is enhanced through a patented process that creates very thin platelets of sulfur and other micronutrients, such as zinc, on the granulated product. The company markets feed phosphate primarily under the brand names of Biofos and Nexfos. All of its wholly owned phosphate mines and related mining operations are located in central Florida. The company operates four mines: Four Corners, South Fort Meade, Hookers Prairie and Wingate. The company owns the above-ground assets of the South Fort Meade mine, including the beneficiation plant, rail track and the initial clay settling areas. A limited partnership, South Ft. Meade Partnership, L.P. (SFMP), owns the majority of the mineable acres in the South Fort Meade mine. The surface rights to approximately 882 acres for the South Fort Meade Mine are owned by SFMP, while the U.S. government owns the mineral rights beneath. Investments in Joint Ventures: The company has a 35% economic interest in a joint venture which owns the Miski Mayo phosphate rock mine in the Bayovar region of Peru. The Miski Mayo Mine’s annual production capacity is 3.9 million tonnes. Sulfur: The company uses molten sulfur at phosphates concentrates plants to produce sulfuric acid primarily for use in production of phosphoric acid. The company owns and operates sulfur terminals in Houston, Texas and Riverview, Florida. Florida Land Holdings: The company is a significant landowner in the state of Florida. The company owns land comprising approximately 255,000 acres held in fee simple title in central Florida, and has the right to mine additional properties which contain phosphate rock reserves. International Production: The company’s international operations include production in Brazil and Argentina. POTASH This segment produces potash worldwide. The company sells potash throughout North America and internationally, principally as fertilizer, but also for use in industrial applications, and as animal feed ingredients. In 2013, the company operated three potash mines in Canada, including two shaft mines with a total of three production shafts and one solution mine, as well as two potash mines
