Yancoal Australia Ltd Announces Consolidated Earnings and Operating Results for the Six Months Ended June 30, 2015; Provides Production Guidance for the Year 2015

Yancoal Australia Ltd. announced consolidated earnings and operating results for the six months ended June 30, 2015. For the period, the company’s revenue was AUD 634,373,000 compared to AUD 654,567,000 a year ago. Loss before income tax was AUD 195,057,000 compared to AUD 248,912,000 a year ago. Loss after income tax was AUD 145,415,000 compared to AUD 192,707,000 a year ago. Basic and diluted loss per share attributable to the ordinary equity holders of the company was AUD 0.15 against AUD 0.19 a year ago. Net cash outflow from operating activities was AUD 112,074,000 against AUD 100,537,000 a year ago. Payments for property, plant and equipment were AUD 69,741,000 against AUD 53,801,000 a year ago. Payments for intangible assets were AUD 90,000. Net tangible assts per share as at June 30, 2015 were AUD 0.10. For the first half, the company reported strong production of 10.6 Mt ROM coal (equity basis) and 7.7Mt saleable product coal (equity basis). The company’s production outlook remains 15.0 Mt - 15.5 Mt (equity share) saleable production for 2015.

Yancoal Australia to Lay Off 225 Employees from Austar, Abel Coal Mines

Yancoal Australia is shedding up to 225 jobs at its two New South Wales, Australia, coal mines. About 55 jobs would be cut at the Austar mine while as many as 170 employees would be let go in August from the Abel mine. The Austar operation will be moving to a two-continuous-miner, seven-days-a-week operation with 185 employees. Meanwhile, the Abel mine will move from Aug. 10 to a five-day-a-week operation with 108 employees.

New South Wales State Government Approves Yancoal's Plans to Extend Stratford Mine

The New South Wales state government has approved Yancoal's plans to extend its Stratford mine to export an additional 21.5mn t of coal over 11 years. The mine development requires final approval by Australia's federal government, with Yancoal only making a final decision on the timing of the project once this is received. The timing will depend on market conditions and the ability of the firm to fund such a project. Yancoal is currently focused on the expansion of its Moorlaben thermal and coking coal mine in western NSW to 12mn t/yr from 6.4mn t/yr.
