It also provides single-family and multi-family residential real estate loans; commercial real estate loans; construction loans; land acquisition and development loans; commercial loans comprising loans secured by accounts receivable, marketable investment securities, business inventory and equipment, and related collateral; and consumer loans, such as home equity loans, home equity lines of credit, automobile loans, loans secured by deposit accounts, and personal and education loans. The company operates six offices in the North Hills suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. WVS Financial Corp. was founded in 1993 and is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

WVS Financial Corp. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported net income of $460,000 or $0.22 per basic and diluted share compared to $198,000 or $0.10 per basic and diluted share for the same period in 2014. Interest income was $1,740,000 against $1,447,000 last year. Net interest income was $1,456,000 against $1,096,000 last year. Income before income tax expense was $663,000 against $290,000 last year. The $262,000 increase in net income during the third quarter ended March 31, 2015 was primarily attributable to a $360,000 increase in net interest income, a $20,000 increase in non-interest income, and a $19,000 decrease in non-interest expense, which were partially offset by a $111,000 increase in income tax expense and a $26,000 increase in provisions for loan losses. The increase in net interest income was primarily attributable to a $293,000 increase in interest income and a $67,000 decrease in interest expense. The increase in interest income was primarily attributable to higher yields earned on the company’s Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) stock, and higher average balances of loans outstanding, U.S. Government agency bonds, and taxable municipal bonds, which were partially offset by lower average balances of U.S. Government agency mortgage-backed securities and investment-grade corporate bonds, and lower yields earned on the company’s loan portfolio, when compared to the same period in 2014. For the nine months, net income totaled $1,025,000 or $0.50 per basic and diluted share, as compared to $641,000 or $0.31 per basic and diluted share for the same period in 2014. The $384,000 increase in net income during the nine months ended March 31, 2015 was primarily attributable to a $716,000 increase in net interest income, and a $20,000 increase in non-interest income, which were partially offset by a $152,000 increase in income tax expense, a $134,000 increase in provisions for loan losses and a $66,000 increase in non-interest expense. The increase in net interest income during the nine months ended March 31, 2015 was attributable to a $523,000 increase in interest income and a $193,000 decrease in interest expense. The increase in interest income was primarily attributable to higher yields earned and higher average balances of the company’s FHLB stock, U.S. Government agency mortgage-backed securities and U.S. Government agency bonds, higher average balances of loans outstanding and taxable municipal bonds, and higher yields earned on investment-grade corporate bonds, which were partially offset by lower average balances of investment-grade corporate bonds and lower yields earned on the company’s loan portfolio. Book value per share - common equity was $15.65, book value per share – tier I equity was 15.84, annualized return on average assets was 0.43% and annualized return on average equity was 4.30%.

WVS Financial Corp. and West View Savings Bank Announce Board Changes

Effective March 31, 2015, Margaret VonDerau resigned her position as a Director of WVS Financial Corp. and West View Savings Bank. Effective April 1, 2015, Edward F. Twomey, III was appointed by the Board of Directors of the company to serve as a Director of the company and West View Savings Bank. Mr. Twomey is Director of U.S. Institutional Fixed Income Sales at BMO Capital Markets GKST Inc. As a member of the Board, Mr. Twomey will serve on the Audit committee, the Compensation committee and the Finance committee of the Board of Directors.
