W. R. Berkley Corporation, an insurance holding company, operates as commercial lines writers primarily in the United States. The company operates in three segments: Insurance-Domestic, Insurance-International, and Reinsurance-Global. The Insurance-Domestic segment underwrites risks of various business lines, including premises operations, commercial automobile, property, general liability, products liability, and professional liability lines. This segment also provides commercial insurance products and services to small-to-mid-sized businesses, and state and local governmental entities primarily in 45 states and the District of Columbia; and services comprising claims, administrative, and consulting services. The Insurance-International segment underwrites specialty, casualty, property, automobile, group life and health and workers' compensation, professional indemnity, directors’ and officers’ liability, medical malpractice, general liability, personal accident and travel, engineering and construction, and surety lines of business in approximately 60 countries. The Reinsurance-Global segment offers other insurance companies and self-insureds with assistance in managing their net risk through reinsurance on a portfolio basis through treaty reinsurance or on an individual basis through facultative reinsurance. W. R. Berkley Corporation was founded in 1967 and is based in Greenwich, Connecticut.

W. R. Berkley Corporation Combines its U.S. Broker Market Reinsurance Units; Announces Executive Appointments

W.R. Berkley Corporation announced the combination of its U.S. broker market reinsurance units, Berkley Re America and Facultative ReSources, into a single operating unit that will trade under the Berkley Re America (BRAM) name. Facultative ReSources is a casualty, professional liability and property facultative underwriter. The newly constituted BRAM will provide a single market for reinsurance brokers to address the diverse needs of their clients. The company also announced that Jonathan A. Schriber has been named chief underwriting officer of the Reinsurance" Global segment. In this role, he will be responsible for the coordination of reinsurance underwriting activities across the group and the build-out of additional products with global scope, and will support the geographic expansion of the reinsurance operations. Mr. Schriber most recently served as president of Berkley Re America has been named chairman. Joseph L. Sullivan has been named president of BRAM. Mr. Sullivan has over 20 years of experience in casualty insurance and reinsurance, with a particular emphasis on the casualty market. He joined Facultative ReSources in 2010 as executive vice president and chief operating officer, and was named president in 2012.

W. R. Berkley Corporation announced that its Board of Directors has declared a regular quarterly cash dividend on its common stock of 11 cents per share to be paid on April 1, 2015 to stockholders of record at the close of business on March 19, 2015.
