The company’s Wireless segment offers wireless voice and data services; messaging services; service that enables its customers to access the Internet on smartphones, basic phones, notebook computers, and tablets; customers and business-focused multimedia offerings; location-based services; global data services; LTE Internet, a high-speed Internet service; and network access and value added services to support telemetry-type applications. It also offers machine-to-machine services that support devices used in health monitoring, education, manufacturing, utilities, distribution, and consumer products markets, as well as offers smartphones and basic phones, tablets, and other Internet access devices. As of December 31, 2014, it had 108.2 million retail connections. Its Wireline segment provides high-speed Internet, FiOS Internet, and FiOS Video services; voice services, such as local exchange, regional and long distance calling, and voice messaging services, as well as VOIP services; private Internet protocol and Ethernet access and optical services; and Internet protocol, infrastructure and cloud services, machine-to-machine services, security, and other communications services. It also offers voice and data services, such as conferencing and contact center solutions, and private line and data access networks, as well as customer premise equipment, installation, maintenance, and site services; and data, voice, local dial tone, and broadband services primarily to local, long distance, and other carriers. The company was formerly known as Bell Atlantic Corporation and changed its name to Verizon Communications Inc. in June 2000. Verizon Communications Inc. was founded in 1983 and is based in New York, New York.

Verizon Communications Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, total operating revenues were $32,224 million, operating income was $7,821 million, income before provision for income taxes was $6,627 million and net income attributable to the company was $4,231 million or $1.04 per diluted share against total operating revenues of $31,483 million, operating income of $7,685 million, income before provision for income taxes of $6,544 million and net income attributable to the company of $4,214 million or $1.02 per diluted share for the same period a year ago. Capital expenditures were $4.5 billion in the quarter. In terms of profitability, the company generated $9.9 billion of EBITDA in the quarter, an increase of 9.1%. In the second quarter, cash flows from operations were $8.7 billion. For the six months, total operating revenues were $64,208 million, operating income was $15,781 million, income before provision for income taxes was $13,296 million and net income attributable to the company was $8,450 million or $2.06 per diluted share against total operating revenues of $62,301 million, operating income of $14,845 million, income before provision for income taxes of $13,498 million and net income attributable to the company of $8,161 million or $2.15 per diluted share for the same period a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $18,906 million against $14,804 million a year ago. Verizon is offering symmetrical 100 megabits per second (mbps) Internet speed in New York City, Long Island, the northern suburbs and northern New Jersey. This means FiOS subscribers in New York and northern New Jersey will be able to send their photos, videos, files and other multi-media communications out to the Internet as fast as they receive information. Upload traffic – information sent out over the Internet – is expected to increase next year and beyond. Verizon's 100/100 mbps FiOS Internet Service tier addresses that growing demand and offers another option to subscribers between the company's 75/75 and 150/150 tiers.

The service is designed to protect the network edge where IP data comes in and flows out of the organization. Unified Security Services can help organizations enhance their overall security posture, reduce complexity with remote set up by Verizon's deployment team and reduce waste by consolidating multiple security functions into a single service. With three tiers of service (basic, intermediate and advanced) to choose from, Verizon's Unified Security Services provides: 24 x 7 service event monitoring, 24 x 7 device availability monitoring and alerting, 24 x 7 access to security support team, Security device O/S upgrades and patch management and available immediately in the U.S. The new service targets: Mid-sized enterprises, Larger organizations with regional offices or retail locations, Larger enterprises with connections to vendor networks, Enterprises with remote network or remote offices that required centralized security and controls and small to medium sized businesses with limited IT staff and modest financial resources to devote to security. Future plans include the launch of a hosted version this fall and availability in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Canada in 2016.
