The company’s Wireless segment offers wireless voice and data services; messaging services; service that enables its customers to access the Internet on smartphones, basic phones, notebook computers, and tablets; customers and business-focused multimedia offerings; location-based services; global data services; LTE Internet, a high-speed Internet service; and network access and value added services to support telemetry-type applications. It also offers machine-to-machine services that support devices used in health monitoring, education, manufacturing, utilities, distribution, and consumer products markets, as well as offers smartphones and basic phones, tablets, and other Internet access devices. As of December 31, 2014, it had 108.2 million retail connections. Its Wireline segment provides high-speed Internet, FiOS Internet, and FiOS Video services; voice services, such as local exchange, regional and long distance calling, and voice messaging services, as well as VOIP services; private Internet protocol and Ethernet access and optical services; and Internet protocol, infrastructure and cloud services, machine-to-machine services, security, and other communications services. It also offers voice and data services, such as conferencing and contact center solutions, and private line and data access networks, as well as customer premise equipment, installation, maintenance, and site services; and data, voice, local dial tone, and broadband services primarily to local, long distance, and other carriers. The company was formerly known as Bell Atlantic Corporation and changed its name to Verizon Communications Inc. in June 2000. Verizon Communications Inc. was founded in 1983 and is based in New York, New York.

ESPN Sues Verizon Communications Inc

Walt Disney Co.'s (DIS) ESPN sports network has reportedly sued telecoms giant Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) for an alleged breach of contract. In a suit filed in New York Supreme Court, ESPN has alleged that Verizon is wrongly including its programming in a new Custom TV service. The network is seeking an injunction and damages.

Level 3 and Verizon Enter into Interconnection Agreement

Level 3 Communications and Verizon have entered into a long-term, bilateral interconnection agreement related to their public IP networks. The interconnection agreement ensures customers on the two networks can continue to exchange data in an effective and efficient manner. As the Internet continues to grow and evolve, Internet service providers are negotiating business agreements that allow exchange of Internet traffic in a scalable, resilient and reliable manner. Focusing on the customer, this agreement allows consumers of both Level 3 and Verizon to enjoy high-performance speeds to enable new, high-bandwidth applications. The agreement contains provisions to add capacity and establish new interconnection locations between the two networks to stay ahead of growing traffic demands. The agreement also includes new connections for Verizon Digital Media Services' content delivery network to connect to Level 3's network globally, further improving quality for Verizon's CDN customers. This approach offers flexibility for each network while improving performance and reliability for the customers of both.

Verizon Communications Inc. Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2015; Provides Capital Expenditures Guidance for the Full Year of 2015

Verizon Communications Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, operating revenues were $31,984 million against $30,818 million a year ago. Operating income was $7,960 million against $7,160 million a year ago. Income before provision for income taxes was $6,669 million against $6,954 million a year ago. Net income attributable to Verizon was $4,219 million or $1.02 per diluted share against $3,947 million or $1.15 per diluted share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $10,169 million, this included approximately $2.4 billion related to the tower monetization transaction, which is nonrecurring, against $7,139 million a year ago. Capital expenditures (including capitalized software) was $3,665 million against $4,150 million a year ago. Net debt as on date was $109,002 million. Consolidated EBITDA totaled $11.9 billion in the quarter, up 5.8%. The company provided capital expenditures guidance for the full year of 2015. Although spending was slightly lower in the first quarter, the company expects 2015 capital expenditures to be within its stated range of $17.5 billion to $18 billion.
