Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. manufactures and supplies discrete semiconductors and passive components in the United States, Europe, and Asia. The company operates in five segments: MOSFETs, Diodes, Optoelectronic Components, Resistors & Inductors, and Capacitors. The MOSFETs segment offers low- and medium-voltage TrenchFET MOSFETs, high-voltage planar MOSFETs, high voltage Super Junction MOSFETs, power integrated circuits, and integrated function power devices. The Diodes segment provides rectifiers, small signal diodes, protection diodes, thyristors/silicon-controlled rectifiers, and power modules. The Optoelectronic Components segment offers standard and customer specific optoelectronic components, such as infrared (IR) emitters and detectors, IR remote control receivers, optocouplers, solid-state relays, optical sensors, light-emitting diodes, 7-segment displays, and IR data transceiver modules. The Resistors & Inductors segment provides film, wirewound, power metal strip, crowbar and steel blade, variable, and non-linear resistors, as well as battery management shunts, thermo fuses, chip fuses, pryotechnic initiators/ignitors, networks/arrays, magnetics, and connectors. The Capacitors segment offers tantalum, ceramic, film, power, heavy-current, and aluminum electrolytic capacitors. The company’s semiconductor components are used for power control, power conversion, power management, signal switching, signal routing, signal blocking, signal amplification, two-way data transfer, one-way remote control, and circuit isolation functions; and passive components are used to restrict current flow, suppress voltage increases, store and discharge energy, control alternating current and voltage, filter out unwanted electrical signals, and perform other functions. It serves industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, power supplies, aerospace, and medical markets. The company was founded in 1962 and is headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. introduced 16 new 10 A to 30 A FRED Pt Hyperfast and Ultrafast recovery rectifiers in the low-profile SMPD (TO-263AC) package. Combining extremely fast and soft recovery characteristics with low leakage current and low forward voltage drop, the Vishay Semiconductors rectifiers reduce switching losses and over-dissipation in automotive and telecom applications while providing a high-density alternative to the TO-263 package. Available in AEC-Q101-qualified and standard versions, the FRED Pt rectifiers released offer reverse voltages of 200 V and 600 V, reverse recovery time down to 25 ns, and typical forward voltage drop down to 0.75 V in single- and dual-die configurations. Footprint-compatible with the TO-263 package, the devices offer a lower package height of < 1.7 mm for increased power density and efficiency and to enable slimmer end products. Specified for output and snubber operation, the FRED Pt rectifiers are optimized for DC/DC converters, power factor correction (PFC), low-voltage inverters, and chopper motor drives in automotive engine control units (ECUs), antilock braking systems (ABS), LED lighting, and HID lighting, in addition to telecom DC/DC bricks. The devices feature a planar structure and platinum-doped lifetime control to guarantee high overall performance, ruggedness, and reliability characteristics in these applications. The components offer an operating junction temperature from -55 °C to +175 °C for a more robust design.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc Releases High-Speed 940 nm Infrared (IR) Emitters

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. broadened its optoelectronics portfolio with the release of new high-speed 940 nm infrared (IR) emitters in leaded and SMD packages. Built on Vishay's SurfLight surface emitter chip technology, the Vishay Semiconductors devices provide up to five times greater radiant intensity than standard IR emitters, reducing component counts, improving performance, and lowering solution costs in a wide range of infrared illumination, data transmission, and gesture recognition applications. The devices released include one leaded 5 mm IR emitter with a parabolic lens, and eight SMD devices in 0805, PLCC-2, top-looking, and side-looking packages. Unlike standard IR emitters that emit light in all directions, Vishay's SurfLight devices emit nearly all the light and power out of the top of the chip. With most of the light concentrated on the surface, higher intensity is achieved; up to an exceptionally high 600 mW/sr for the leaded emitter and from 10 mW/sr to 120 mW/sr for the SMD devices. The SurfLight emitters combine their high brightness with narrow angles of half intensity of ± 3° for the leaded device and ± 9° to ± 60° for SMD devices. With their 940 nm wavelength and narrow spectral bandwidth, the emitters guarantee invisible infrared radiation for CMOS cameras in CCTV and night vision systems, gaming, smoke detectors, light curtains, proximity sensors, and IR touch panels. For automotive applications, the SMD VSMY1940X01 and VSMY3940X01 are AEC-Q101 qualified. The IR emitters offer fast rise and fall times of 10 ns, low forward voltages down to 1.32 V at 20 mA, and radiant power to 55 mW. Top-looking devices are package matched with Vishay's VEMD2000X01 and VEMD2503X01 series detectors, while side-looking devices are matched with the VEMD2xx3SLX01 and VEMT2xx3SLX01. The IR emitters are suitable for high pulse current operation, offer a floor life up to four weeks, and moisture sensitivity levels of 2a and 3 in accordance with J-STD-020. Supporting lead (Pb)-free reflow soldering, the devices are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay GREEN.
