The MOSFETs segment offers low- and medium-voltage TrenchFET MOSFETs, high-voltage planar MOSFETs, high voltage Super Junction MOSFETs, power integrated circuits, and integrated function power devices. The Diodes segment provides rectifiers, small signal diodes, protection diodes, thyristors/silicon-controlled rectifiers, and power modules. The Optoelectronic Components segment offers standard and customer specific optoelectronic components, such as infrared (IR) emitters and detectors, IR remote control receivers, optocouplers, solid-state relays, optical sensors, light-emitting diodes, 7-segment displays, and IR data transceiver modules. The Resistors & Inductors segment provides film, wirewound, power metal strip, crowbar and steel blade, variable, and non-linear resistors, as well as battery management shunts, thermo fuses, chip fuses, pryotechnic initiators/ignitors, networks/arrays, magnetics, and connectors. The Capacitors segment offers tantalum, ceramic, film, power, heavy-current, and aluminum electrolytic capacitors. The company’s semiconductor components are used for power control, power conversion, power management, signal switching, signal routing, signal blocking, signal amplification, two-way data transfer, one-way remote control, and circuit isolation functions; and passive components are used to restrict current flow, suppress voltage increases, store and discharge energy, control alternating current and voltage, filter out unwanted electrical signals, and perform other functions. It serves industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, power supplies, aerospace, and medical markets. The company was founded in 1962 and is headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. Releases New Bidirectional Symmetrical Single-Line ESD Protection Diode for Portable Electronics in the Ultra-Compact CLP0603 Package

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. released a new bidirectional symmetrical (BiSy) single-line ESD protection diode for portable electronics in the ultra-compact CLP0603 package. Measuring only 0.6 mm by 0.3 mm with a very low height of 0.27 mm, the Vishay Semiconductors VBUS05B1-SD0 offers ultra-low capacitance and leakage current for the protection of high-speed data lines and antennas against transient voltage signals. The VBUS05B1-SD0’s chip-level package in the 0603 case size is one of the smallest in the industry, requiring three times less board space than packages in the 1006 case size. Due to its short leads and small package size, the diode’s line inductance is very low, allowing fast transients such as an ESD strike to be clamped with minimal over- or undershoots. With very low load capacitance of 0.29 pF typical and 0.4 pF maximum, the VBUS05B1-SD0 can be used for the protection of high-speed data ports like HDMI, USB 3.0, and Thunderbolt in smartphones, mobile phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, and portable gaming systems. The device features a low maximum leakage current of < 0.1 µA at the working voltage of 5.5 V, a breakdown voltage of 8.8 V typical at 1 mA, and a maximum clamping voltage of 18 V at 2.5 A. The VBUS05B1-SD0 provides transient protection for one data line as per IEC 61000-4-2 at ± 16 kV (air and contact discharge). The device offers a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of 1 in accordance to J-STD-020, a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating, and supports reflow soldering to +260 °C for 10 s per JEDEC STD-020. The protection diode is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay GREEN. Samples and production quantities of the new VBUS05B1-SD0 are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for large orders.

Vishay Intertechnology Wet Tantalum Capacitor Approves DLA 15005, Offers Improved Vibration Capability, Thermal Shock, and Reverse Voltage for Avionics and Aerospace Systems

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. introduced a new tantalum-cased wet tantalum capacitor with a glass-to-tantalum hermetic seal that is approved to Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) drawing 15005. For avionics and aerospace systems, the device is the industry's first wet tantalum capacitor approved to DLA 15005 to combine a reverse voltage of 1.5 V at +85°C with improved vibration (sine: 50 g; random: 27.7 g) capability and thermal shock of 300 cycles. Providing all the advantages of Vishay’s SuperTan® series devices — while offering improved reverse voltage for higher performance and enhanced vibration and thermal shock capabilities for increased reliability — the DLA 15005 electrolytic capacitor is optimized for timing, filtering, energy hold-up, and pulse power applications in power supplies for space and avionics equipment. The device is initially offered in the axial T4 case size, with current voltage of 75 V, high capacitance of 1000 µF, and capacitance tolerance of ± 10 % and ± 20 % standard at 120 Hz and + 25 °C. The development of additional ratings and case sizes is underway. The DLA 15005 operates over a temperature range of -55 °C to +85 °C, to +125 °C with voltage derating, and provides low maximum ESR of 0.50 O at 120 Hz and +25 °C. The capacitor released features standard tin/lead (Pb) terminations, with RoHS-compliant 100 % tin terminations available.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. Introduces a New TrenchFET 20 V n-channel MOSFET

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. introduced a new TrenchFET 20 V n-channel MOSFET designed to save space, decrease power consumption, and extend battery usage in wearable devices, smartphones, tablets, and solid-state drives. Offered in a chipscale MICRO FOOT package with an ultra-low 0.54 mm maximum height, the Vishay Siliconix Si8410DB provides the lowest on-resistance for any 20 V device in the compact 1 mm square footprint. Optimized for use as a load switch, small-signal switch, and high-speed switch in power management applications, the Si8410DB features extremely low on-resistance of 37 mO at 4.5 V, 41 mO at 2.5 V, 47 mO at 1.8 V, and 68 mO at 1.5 V. Compared with the closest competing devices in the CSP 1 mm square package, these ratings represent an improvement of 26% at 4.5 V, 32 % at 2.5 V, 35% at 1.8 V, and 27% at 1.5 V. Compared with devices in the DFN 1 mm square package, on-resistance is 32% lower at 4.5 V, 40% lower at 2.5 V, 48% lower at 1.8 V, and 43% lower at 1.5 V. The device’s low on-resistance, ratings down to 1.5 V, and ± 8 V VGS provide a combination of safety margin, gate drive design flexibility, and high performance for lithium ion battery-powered applications. The Si8410DB offers an extremely low on-resistance per area of 30 mO-mm square — 28 % lower than the closest competing 20 V MOSFET in a 1 mm square plastic package — to save space and reduce battery power consumption in mobile applications. The device’s low on-resistance means a very low voltage drop at DC and pulse peak currents, so less power is wasted as heat. The combination of lower on-resistance and lower thermal resistance results in up to 45 % and 144 % lower temperature rise than the next-best devices in CSP and 1 mm square packages, respectively. Samples and production quantities of the Si8410DB are available now, with lead times of 13 weeks for larger orders.
