volkswagen ag (VOW) Key Developments

Volkswagen AG to Launch Revamped Phaeton in US

Volkswagen AG is launching its revamped Phaeton in the United States by 2017 or 2018. The model is likely to be priced at USD 86,000. The vehicle is expected to be based on the automaker's MLB platform, shared with the next-generation Audi A8, with a choice between six- and eight-cylinder engines in the United States. Volkswagen also plans to launch a hybrid engine with up to 400bhp.

BMW and VW Working with ChargePoint to Expand EV Charging Station Networks

BMW and Volkswagen (VW) announced that the two will work together with ChargePoint to put 100 charging stations in US states. Specifically, the stations will be along Interstate 95 from Boston to Washington DC, and along routes between Portland, Oregon; San Francisco, Los Angeles; and San Diego, California. The DC chargers planned will deliver 50 kilowatts to recharge 80% of the vehicles' batteries in 20 minutes, and are meant to charge the BMW i3 and VW e-Golf, as well as other vehicles. This is in contrast to Tesla's SuperChargers, which are only able to charge Tesla vehicles.

Volkswagen AG to Launch New Concept Car at Geneva Motor Show

Volkswagen AG is launching a new concept car that will preview the next CC at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show scheduled for March. The model is to be built on the same modular MQB platform as the Euro-spec eighth-gen Passat but will not share any styling cues. The production version is likely to be launched at a major auto show early next year and arrive at United States dealerships for the 2017 model year. The vehicle features a bolder front end, a roofline that slopes to meet the boot lid and the next generation of Volkswagen's infotainment system. It is likely to be available with the same range of petrol and diesel engines as the Passat, and a GTE-badged plug-in hybrid model.
