The company was formerly known as KASLION Acquisition B.V and changed its name to NXP Semiconductors N.V. in May 2010. IPextreme Joins Forces with NXP to Bring Silicon Proven USB Technology to Market

IPextreme announced a partnership to bring NXP Semiconductors’ family of silicon-proven USB IP cores to market. USB is considered the most ubiquitous of all computer interfaces, enabling connectivity all manner of electronic devices, including laptop computers, cell phones, printers, displays, keyboards, and mice at a variety of interface speeds. IPextreme will use its long-established processes for converting captive IP assets into marketable industry solutions. The rollout of IP products from NXP will begin with an initial set of USB2.0 High-Speed/Full-Speed and USB2.0 Full-Speed only (also known as USB1.1) products. The initial set of products available to customers will be the following: USB 2.0 High-Speed/Full-Speed Device Controller; USB 2.0 High-Speed/Full-Speed Host and Device Controller; USB 2.0 Full-Speed only Device Controller; USB 2.0 Full-Speed only Host and Device Controller; USB 2.0 High-Speed/Full-Speed PHY (90nm TSMC) and USB 2.0 Full-Speed I/O (65nm and 90nm TSMC). All USB controllers are fully synthesizable designs and highly configurable to allow customers to adapt them easily to their precise requirements. Ports of the mixed-signal PHY and I/O cores to other foundries and nodes will be available upon customer request. USB 2.0 products will be available from IPextreme beginning in the first quarter of 2016. USB 3.1 products will be available by the end of 2016.

NXP Semiconductors N.V. Announces the Launch of NHS315x

NXP Semiconductors N.V. announced the launch of NHS315x, a therapy adherence improvement platform. This marks NXP’s commitment to the Smart Health sector and showcases the pivotal role technology can play in long-term patient therapy. Despite medical advances in recent decades, many treatments are still not as effective as they could be as many patients do not take their medicines as prescribed. Elderly patients may have difficulty in remembering to do so. Chronically ill patients may discontinue taking their medication once they feel better, unaware their disease may recur with severe knock-on effects. The incurred impact linked to poor therapy adherence in the US is estimated around 280 Billion USD and 125,000 casualties every year. NXP is launching a solution that helps address this problem. An NFC-enabled sensor is embedded in blister packs or pill bottles and tracks which medication was removed at what time from the package. That information is recorded through the user simply tapping their smartphone to the package. This information can subsequently be used to offer therapy specific and personalized services to support patient, care-giver or healthcare professional. The product value proposition has already been confirmed in the Honors Academy program at the Radboud University in the Netherlands, who conducted a study around therapy adherence and how technology can be effectively used to address the problem. NXP will collaborate with pharmaceutical and medical packaging companies, application developers, as well as public and private payors to deploy this solution. It will be demonstrated for the first time at AIPIA World Congress 2015 in Utrecht, Netherlands on November 18-19.

NXP Semiconductors NV Introduces New Thread Connectivity Platform Running ARM mbed OS for the IoT

NXP Semiconductors N.V. announced that on Nov. 9, 2015 unveiled the NXP Thread platform running ARM mbed OS. Designed to simplify the task of writing software needed to control hardware devices that connect to the cloud, the platform makes it easy to create embedded connected solutions such as lighting and gateway devices for the IoT market. NXP's Thread platform features the company's new wireless microcontroller, the JN5179, based on the ARM Cortex-M3 CPU, and a 2.4 GHz radio (based on IEEE 802.15.4) which supports low power communications protocols including ZigBee 3.0 and Thread. JN5179 microcontroller samples are available now. Full evaluation kits for the JN5179 mbed modules will be available early next year.
