Vicor Corporation announced the expansion of its Picor Cool-Power(TM) ZVS Point of Load (POL) Regulator portfolio with the introduction of its new, high efficiency PI3749, PI3751, and PI3755 buck-boost regulators. By minimizing switching losses, Picor's ZVS topology enables efficiencies over 98% -- maintains a high efficiency over the specified Vin range High frequency operation (up to 2.5 MHz) enables best in class power density and transient response Easy to use LGA System in Package (SiP), with integrated controller, power switches and support components, reduces design risk and speeds time to market. The Picor Cool-Power PI3749 buck-boost regulator covers a wide range of high performance applications including computing, communications, industrial, LED lighting, and battery systems. PI3749 operates from 16 Vin to 34 Vin, regulates an output voltage from 12 V to 34 V and provides output current up to 11.5 A for power delivery over 200 W Power delivery can be further increased by using single wire current sharing without any additional components. The Picor Cool-Power PI3751 and PI3755 buck-boost regulators are designed for Factorized Power Architecture(r) (FPA(r)) and work in conjunction with VI Chip(r) VTM(r) current multipliers to address high performance point-of-load power delivery to processors (including VR12.5+ compliance) and memory (including DDR3/4 compliance) in server and datacenter applications. The PI37XX series expands the portfolio of high performance, high density Picor Cool-Power ZVS POL Regulators. Vicor Corp. Expands its DCM DC DC Converter Module Series

Vicor Corporation announced the expansion of the DCM Converter Module Series of isolated, regulated DC-DC converters within Vicor's Converter housed in Package(TM) (ChiP) power component platform. This series now covers critical applications in Aerospace, EV/HEV, Rugged Systems, Industrial, and Telecom/Datacom. DCMs provide nominal input voltages of 24, 28, 48, 270, 290, and 300 Volts with nominal outputs of 48, 36, 28, 24, 15, 12, and 5 Volts and are available in packages with up to 600 Watts of power. DCMs can be coupled with Vicor FPA(TM) and/or ZVS regulators enabling full power solutions that deliver dense, efficient, and scalable source-to-load power. Designers can couple DCMs downstream with Vicor's ChiP and SiP (system in package) point-of-load regulators, thereby enabling an integrated, complete power solution. Such a combination of differentiated products, reflecting Vicor's Power Component Design Methodology, provides unsurpassed performance, ease of use, and total cost of ownership. By utilizing Vicor's DC-ZVS topology within the DCM series, 93% typical efficiency can be achieved, along with power density exceeding two times that of conventional DC-DC converters. With power density up to 1,244 W/in3, DCMs enable engineers to optimize end systems for size, space, and weight. In addition, up to eight DCMs can be paralleled in an array without derating or additional circuitry. When configured in such an array, up to a 4.8 kW DC-DC solution can be achieved. Vicor's DCMs are available in two through-hole packages: a 4623 (46 x 23 mm) ChiP package capable of up to 600 W of power and a 3623 (36 x 23 mm) ChiP package capable of up to 320 W of power.

Attendees can also participate in hands-on demonstrations of Vicor's online PowerBench design tool suite. PowerBench tools enable designers to employ a web-based power component design methodology that eliminates design complexity, reduces development costs, and accelerates time to market. At APEC 2015, Vicor will demo the latest enhancements to its PowerBench Whiteboard, an easy-to-use design tool that equips users to architect end-to-end power chain block diagrams and dynamically analyze system attributes including efficiency and power loss. With the most recent enhancements to the Whiteboard design tool, users will be able to preview the mechanical layout of their power chains and assess the real-world size and dimensions of the components they've selected. Providing a top-down view of the complete component power chain, this capability enables users to better optimize their designs for maximum power density and space savings.
