The company creates television programs, motion pictures, short-form video, applications, games, consumer products, social media, and other entertainment content. It operates in two segments, Media Networks and Filmed Entertainment. The Media Networks segment provides entertainment content and related branded products through approximately programmed and operated 230 TV channels, including MTV, VH1, CMT, Logo, BET, CENTRIC, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., TeenNick, Nicktoons, Nick at Nite, Comedy Central, TV Land, SPIKE, Channel 5, Tr3s, Paramount Channel, and VIVA, as well as through online, mobile, and apps. The Filmed Entertainment segment produces, finances, acquires, and distributes motion pictures, television programming, and other entertainment content and other entertainment content under the Paramount Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Paramount Classics, Insurge Pictures, MTV Films, Nickelodeon Movies, and Paramount Television brands; and exhibits the motion pictures theatrically. The company also sells content through download-to-own, download-to-rent, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, video-on-demand, pay television and subscription video-on-demand, streaming, broadcast television, basic cable television, and syndicated television, as well as other exhibitors, such as airlines and hotels. The company is headquartered in New York, New York.

Viacom has appointed MTV executive Kerry Taylor as chief marketing officer (CMO) of its UK operations, a newly created role. Jo Bacon, who is MTV UK's vice president for marketing and communications, is taking on further responsibility for Channel 5 marketing ahead of a rebrand.

Viacom Inc. Agrees to pay About $7.2 Million in Intern Lawsuit Settlement

Viacom Inc. agreed to pay about $7.2 million to settle a class-action lawsuit claiming that its internship program violated minimum wage and labor laws. The proposed settlement, which was contained in a March 11, 2015 court filing cited in a March 12, 2015 report by Deadline.com, aims to end the lawsuit that involved more than 300 individuals. The lead plaintiff in the case was Casey O'Jeda, an unpaid intern from September 2011 to January 2012.

Viacom Inc. Names Jeff Lucas as Ad Sales Division's Head

Viacom Inc. consolidated its ad sales unit and named Jeff Lucas as the division's head. Lucas, who currently runs ad sales for MTV, VH1 and other similar entertainment channels, also will start managing ad operations for children's channels such as Nickelodeon. Ad sales operations for the BET unit will remain separate. The changes are reportedly part of an ongoing reorganization process, during which Viacom also consolidated three of its TV network groups into two.
