United Bank for Africa plc Reports Unaudited Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 2015; Provides EPS Guidance for the Financial Year 2015

United Bank for Africa Plc reported unaudited earnings results for the first quarter ended March 2015. For the period, the company achieved a profit after tax of NGN 17 billion in its unaudited 2015 first quarter performance, against NGN 12.6 billion posted in the corresponding period in 2014. Specifically, the result, which covers the period January to March 2015, showed that the bank's profit after tax grew by 35% to NGN 17 billion from NGN 12.6 billion within the same period in 2014. The bank recorded 36% growth in profit before tax from NGN 13.5 billion to NGN 18.4 billion during the period under review. If the first quarter growth rate is sustained, while return on equity is expected to rise to 24.8% from 22.1% within the same period, showing significant improvement in returns to shareholders. For the year 2015, the company explained that the significant growth in profit after tax means that the bank's earnings per share at the end of the 2015 financial year is forecast to rise by 35% to NGN 2.06 from NGN 1.53.
