treasury wine estates ltd (TWE) Key Developments

Treasury Wine Estates to Close Packaging Plant Near Mildura

Treasury Wine Estates has announced it will close its packaging and warehousing centre at Karadoc, near Mildura, by June 2016. The company also plans to sell three wineries - two in Victoria and one in South Australia - as part of a major cost-cutting drive to save $50 million annually. More than 100 workers are employed at the Karadoc packaging centre, but Treasury has not confirmed the exact number of jobs that will be lost.

Treasury Wine Estates To Sell Wineries

Treasury Wine Estates Limited (ASX:TWE) will close a wine processing business and has put four wineries up for sale in a raft of major changes. Treasury Wine Estates’ packaging and warehousing facility at Karadoc near Mildura, Victoria, will be shut, while its Australian Ryecroft, T'Gallant Winemakers Pty. Ltd. and Bailey's properties are for sale along with a United States winery. The moves are aimed at reducing its overhead cost base, with work at Karadoc to be transferred to the Wolf Blass facility in the Barossa, South Australia. Treasury Wine Estates Limited is seeking to sell T'Gallant Winemakers, Rosemount Winery, Bailey's Winery and Asti Winery. Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) is putting some of its Australian and the US wineries up for sale and closing a packaging and warehousing facility as part of its plan to cut cost. As part of TWE's strategy to focus on fewer brands, TWE will also start a sale process for excess assets in Australia including the Ryecroft winery, T'Gallant and Bailey's properties. In the US, TWE will consolidate its production facilities such that TWE's Asti winery in Sonoma County, California, will become surplus to the company's production needs.

TWE Planning To Sell Winery Infrastructure

Treasury Wine Estates Limited (ASX:TWE) is planning to sell and leaseback deals for a range of winery infrastructure and will also pursue potential asset sharing deals with rivals to free up capital and improve returns on investment. Mike Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of Treasury Wine, said "Bottling plants, winery processing infrastructure and other assets in Australia that are sitting inside the company don't need to be owned. Too much capital is needlessly tied up on the balance sheet and needs to be liberated. There are parts of the value chain where we don't have to own the assets. I don't think we have to own everything. Decisions will be made soon. It could be an alliance or partnership where we share an asset."
