TDK Corporation has concluded an organizational alliance agreement with Tokyo Institute of Technology for joint research on magnetic and magnet technology. Ferrite grew out of the research of Dr. Yogoro Kato and Dr. Takeshi Takei at Tokyo Institute of Technology's Department of Electrochemistry. TDK was founded on December 7, 1935, to engage in the commercialization of ferrite. Subsequently, ahead of the rest of the world, ferrite came to be applied in wireless communication equipment and radios in Japan, and later it influenced the evolution of all kinds of electronic devices, such as the deflection yoke cores used in television cathode-ray tubes and transformers to adjust voltage. Nowadays ferrite is used in a wide range of applications, including smart phones, tablets, and, in the automobile field, hybrid and electric vehicles. On the basis of this organizational alliance agreement, Tokyo Institute of Technology and TDK will explore the unlimited potential for innovation possessed by magnetic and magnet technology through the implementation of multiple joint research with the aim of achieving highly original developments that will lead to next-generation electronics and in turn increased competitiveness for Japan.

TDK Corporation Introduces TDK-Lambda's DRF120-480 Series of Full Featured DIN Rail Mount Power Supplies

TDK Corporation announced the introduction of TDK-Lambda's DRF120-480 series of full featured DIN rail mount power supplies. Designed to support the growing trend for DIN power solutions in industrial, building automation and process control applications, the DRF series combines compact dimensions with efficiency of up to 94%. No load power consumption is between. Carrying a 5-year warranty, the TDK-Lambda 24V output DRF series is available in three power levels, 120W (5A), 240W (10A) and 480W (20A), and can deliver a peak power of 150% for 4 seconds. The overload characteristic is constant current style; ideal for driving motors and other non-linear loads. Additional features include remote on/off, parallel capability, remote voltage adjust and a DC good relay output. The supplies operate from a universal input of 85~264Vac and have EN61000-3-2 compliance, enabling worldwide use; moreover, they can withstand input voltage surges of 300Vac for 5 seconds. Housed in a metal case, the DRF series offer a narrow design, ranging from 36.5mm to 82mm, saving vital space on the DIN rail. The smallest model measures just 36.5mm x 123.4mm x 115mm (DRF120-24-1); all DRF models will mount on either a TS35/7.5 or TS35/15 DIN rail offering engineers a flexible option for various applications. In addition, they have been rigorously tested for shock and vibration while mounted onto the rail. The supplies can operate at full load over a wide temperature range of -25 to +60°C (derating linearly to 70% load at+70°C). Other features include over-current, over-voltage protection and a hold-up time of up to 20ms at full load. The DRF series is approved to UL508 safety standard for industrial control equipment. Further safety approvals include IEC/EN 60950-1 (2nd Ed.) and UL/CSA 60950-1. CE marked in accordance with the LV Directive, EMC Directive and RoHS Directive, the power supplies are designed to meet EN55022 and CISPR22 Class B for conducted and radiated EMI.

TDK Corporation Introduces 800W High Voltage Models to TDK-Lambda's Z+ Series of Programmable DC Power Supplies

TDK Corporation announced the introduction of 800W high voltage models to TDK-Lambda's Z+ series of programmable DC power supplies. The series is now available with output voltages of 0-10, 0-20, 0-36, 0-60, 0-160, 0-320 and 0-650VDC with output powers of 200 to 800W. These higher voltages address the requirements for applications such as deposition processes, remotely operated underwater vehicles, ATE systems as well as general laboratory and industrial use. The TDK-Lambda Z+ 800W high voltage models have the same features and compact dimensions (2U high and 2.76 wide) as the existing models and achieve efficiencies of up to 89%. The units can operate in either constant current or constant voltage modes and accept a universal 85-265VAC input. Up to 6 units can be connected in parallel (master-slave configuration), or 2 identical units in series with external diodes. All models can be programmed via the front panel controls or remotely using the USB, RS232/485 or analog control interfaces. Optional LAN, GPIB (IEEE488) and isolated analog programming interfaces are also available.
