TDK Unveils EPCOS Snubber Cap Finder

TDK Corporation has unveiled the EPCOS Snubber Cap Finder. The EPCOS Snubber Cap Finder is an innovative online tool that simplifies and speeds up the search for suitable snubber capacitors to protect IGBT modules against voltage peaks. With Snubber Cap Finder, the user only has to enter the manufacturer's IGBT code number in the search mask, and the integrated database, covering over 1000 IGBT modules from major suppliers, then locates the appropriate capacitors. Alternatively, the search can be made by entering the voltage, capacity, capacitor type or terminal configuration. The search is then supported with technical drawings of the selected terminal configuration, an overview of the key technical data and the link to the corresponding data sheets. The EPCOS snubber capacitors are currently available in 17 different terminal configurations. The series, ranging from B32656S to B32686S, are characterized by their high pulse strength and reliability of the contacts. In addition, the components offer extremely low ESL values. The tin-plated copper straps have hole spacings ranging from 19.5 mm to 63 mm. These snubber capacitors cover a range of voltages from 850 V DC to 2000 V DC and capacitances from 68 nF to 5.6 µF. All types are designed for temperatures of up to +110°C.

TDK Corporation Unveils New Heating Elements for Electric Vehicles

TDK Corporation has unveiled new EPCOS PTC heating elements for electric vehicles. In contrast to the tried and test heating elements for conventional 12 V onboard power supplies, the new components are designed for the considerably higher voltage batteries in electric vehicles. The rated voltages of these heating elements cover the range from 200 V to 500 V, enabling surface temperatures of up to 250C to be achieved. Depending on the design, these heating elements are suitable for safe operation at up to 1,000 V. Whereas cars with combustion engines can use waste heat for heating the passenger compartment, electric vehicles require electrical heating. PTC heating elements, which are connected in arrays and installed in heat exchangers, represent an ideal solution as they are self-regulating. The flow of current increases not only the temperature of these ceramic elements, but also their resistance, thereby limiting the current and establishing a stable equilibrium. Depending on customer requirements, the EPCOS PTC heating elements can be manufactured in a variety of geometries and with different electrical and thermal properties.
