Trex Co. Inc. Announces Earnings Results for the First Quarter of 2015; Provides Revenue Guidance for the Second Quarter of 2015

Trex Co. Inc. announced earnings results for the first quarter of 2015. The company said its net income rose to $17.6 million or $0.55 per diluted share from $12.3 million or $0.37 a year ago. Sales rose to $120.8 million from $100.6 million compared to the $119.9 million consensus, a 20% increase compared to 2014, reflecting strong organic sales growth. The strong performance came across most of North America, was realized due to expanding market share and more favorable weather conditions across most of the region compared to 2014. Earnings before taxes were $27.5 million, a 40% increase over the prior year's results. Free cash flow was negative $90 million compared to a negative $85 million in 2014. This was due mainly to increased working capital to support higher sales and increased capital expenditures of $6 million, partially offset by increased net income. The increase in capital expenditures was primarily related to the three additional specialty materials pellet lines and the purchase of land adjacent to Winchester facility for a potential future expansion. The company expects second quarter 2015 revenue to set a company record for the quarter at approximately $136 million, and represent a 12% increase from last year's period, when revenue was just shy of the historical record set in 2006. The second quarter sales guidance is slightly shy of the $139.1 million consensus estimate.
