Airlines Reportedly Seeks Stake In Croatia Airlines

Airlines reportedly seeks stake in Croatia Airlines d.d. (ZGSE:CRAL-R-A). Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft (DB:LHA), Aegean Airlines S.A. (ATSE:AEGN) and Türk Hava Yollari Anonim Ortakligi (IBSE:THYAO) are proceeding to the second round of the process for the privatisation of Croatia Airlines, Zagreb-based media reported. In the first round, Eva Airways Corp. (TSEC:2618) and Korean Air Lines Co. Ltd. (KOSE:A003490) showed the keenest interest and sent letters of intent, but have since backed out, news daily Vecernji List reported over the weekend, not naming a source. International Finance Corporation is now starting to step up their talks with the German, Greek and Turkish candidates to determine how these air carriers would like to enter Croatia Airlines' shareholding structure, Vecernji said. According to Vecernji's source, Aegean is mostly keen on acquiring the whole business, while Lufthansa would like to implement some sort of a merger with Croatia Airlines. Both candidates face no threshold on the size of the stake they can acquire in their Croatian peer as all involved hail from an EU member state. Turkish Airlines, coming from a non-EU country, can acquire up to 49% of Croatia Airlines at the most. The decision on the privatisation model for Croatia Airlines - whether it would involve recapitalisation, strategic partnership or outright sale - should be made by spring next year, Vecernji said, adding that an international tender will then be called, giving a chance to more candidate buyers to join the process.
