Telenor Reportedly Eyeing Stake In Tata Tele Services

Telenor ASA (OB:TEL) is doing a due diligence of Tata Teleservices to acquire a majority stake in Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited (BSE:532371). Telenor may look to merge its Indian subsidiary with Tata Teleservices. Telenor Chief Executive Officer Fredrik Baksaas is expected to come down to India for negotiations. While Telenor did not respond, a Tata Sons spokesperson said the company did not comment on speculations.

Naspers Limited, Schibsted Media Group, Telenor Group and Singapore Press Holdings to Establish Joint Ventures

Naspers Limited, Schibsted Media Group, Telenor Group and Singapore Press Holdings announced on 13 November 2014 an agreement to establish joint ventures for the development of their online classifieds platforms in four key markets Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh. The transactions closed on 8 January 2015 after all conditions precedent have been satisfied, and the joint ventures are now established. The establishment of the joint ventures will bring substantial benefits to consumers, as they will be able to buy and sell goods on better and more comprehensive market places. The businesses will also be able to share cost, expertise and people to more effectively build awareness of the benefits of a vibrant online classifieds offering to consumers.

Axiata And Others Eyeing Stake In MobiFone

Axiata Group Berhad (KLSE:AXIATA) is said to in interested in acquiring Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Company (MobiFone). An executive from Axiata said that the company is interested in the plan by MobiFone to go public. Annis Sheikh Mohamed, Head of corporate development said that Axiata wants to take part in MobiFone’s privatization. The official further added that the communications ministry is still collcecting feedback from relevant bodies on MobiFone’s plan to go public, and is expected to submit the final proposal to the government within 2015 and the plan is also expected to be approved in 2015. Deputy Minister said, “The Ministry of Information and Communications is willing to support and answer any questions regarding the plan from international investors.” According to the news report, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) can hold around 20% stake in MobiFone once the company goes public, whereas the largest stake a foreign investor will be allowed to own is 49%, while many international telecom firms have also shown interest in acquiring a stake in the company. Telenor ASA (OB:TEL) is one of them. Arne Kjetil Lian, Telenor’s senior Vice President in Asia has expressed the company’s interest in MobiFone’s IPO, according to ICTNews. Comviq GSM AB is also a potential investor for MobiFone.
