synaptics inc (SYNA) Key Developments

Synaptics Inc. Unveils TDDI Solutions for Smartphones and Tablets

Synaptics Inc. has unveiled Synaptics ClearPad 4191 and ClearPad 4291, the company's touch and display driver integration, or TDDI, solutions for smartphones and tablets. With the 4291 already shipping and 4191 sampling with tier-one OEMs, the new touchscreen solutions further advance the company's family of display integration products, offering best-in-class performance, lower overall system cost and a simplified supply chain for device manufacturers. These innovations enable faster time-to-market and product differentiation for OEMs, and further position Synaptics as the clear market leader in display integration technology. Synaptics TDDI combines the touch controller and display driver into a single chip, reducing component count and simplifying design. ClearPad 4291 supports hybrid in-cell designs, eliminating the discrete touch sensor by leveraging existing layers in the liquid crystal display. ClearPad 4191 goes a step further by leveraging existing electrodes in the LCD for an even more elegant system architecture. Both solutions result in thinner touchscreens and brighter displays that help to improve the overall aesthetic design of smartphones and tablets. Additionally, both employ Synaptics' TDsync technology, virtually eliminating display noise and delivering best-in-class capacitive sensing performance. Proprietary Synaptics TDsync technology synchronizes touch sensing and display driving to virtually eliminate display noise and offer best-in-class capacitive touch performance. Integration of the touch sensor into the display results in thinner form factors and improved industrial design. Fewer layers in the touchscreen results in a brighter display, or longer battery life for the same brightness. Reducing the number of components, eliminating lamination steps and increasing manufacturing yield lowers overall system cost for OEMs Sourcing touch and display from one manufacturer simplifies the supply chain for OEMs.

Synaptics Unveils New VFS6170 Fingerprint Sensor for Mobile Devices

Synaptics Inc., has announced VFS6170, its new fingerprint sensor for mobile devices. As an extension of Synaptics' Natural ID product family, the VFS6170 slide sensor improves industrial design by integrating an ultra-slim biometric slide sensor on the side of a smartphone or tablet, enables single handed authentication, and further broadens the company's portfolio of fingerprint ID technologies available to OEMs. With Synaptics VFS6170, OEMs have the ability to integrate an ultra-slim slide sensor on the side of the device, offering consumers a simplified and intuitive authentication method and giving users the ability to access their devices securely with a single handed thumb-swipe gesture. Additionally, Synaptics VFS6170 is designed to accelerate adoption in entry to mid-range devices by eliminating the need for a front glass cutout for the biometrics sensor, preserving the smooth-front industrial design and reducing total solution cost. At 2.8mm thin, the VFS6170 fits into narrow spaces such as the edge of a device. The VFS6170 can be incorporated into the side, volume rocker button for seamless integration and fewer, or no, cutouts to the front glass.
