SolarWinds Announces Enhancements to SolarWinds(r) Database Performance Analyzer

SolarWinds announced enhancements to SolarWinds(r) Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) to improve the performance of business-critical applications by optimizing SQL Server(r), Oracle(r) and other database operations -- whether apps are hosted on premises, in a virtualized environment, or now, on the Amazon(r) Web Services (AWS) Cloud. Applications are increasingly elemental to business operations, and their performance and fast response time is thus essential to any organization's success. The current set of application performance management (APM) tools focuses on app code, largely ignoring the database, yet in a 2014 Gleanster survey on APM, 88% of respondents cited the database as their most common challenge with app performance. Further, as businesses increasingly embrace cloud and hybrid architecture deployments for hosting their apps, these environments grow more dynamic and complex, so database performance analysis and optimization are more critical than ever to maintain end-user expectations for uptime and performance. SolarWinds DPA continuously monitors SQL Server, Oracle, SAP ASE (formerly Sybase(r)) and DB2(r) databases in physical, cloud-based and VMware(r) environments to identify database performance issues that impact end-user response times, isolate root cause, show historical performance trends and dynamic baselines, and correlate metrics with response time and performance.

SolarWinds, Inc. Introduces New Storage Resource Monitor

SolarWinds, Inc. announced that it has introduced the new Storage Resource Monitor, or SRM, and announced updates to Server & Application Monitor, or SAM, Virtualization Manager and Web Performance Monitor, or WPM, including integration with the company's Orion technology backbone and the new the company's AppStack dashboard, to support IT application performance by monitoring the complete application stack, or AppStack, through a single pane of glass. The new AppStack dashboard available in the company's solutions presents the integrated monitoring of applications, servers, virtualization and storage resources-and Web user experience for Web-based applications-within a single pane of glass to show the health of each of these infrastructure components and how it may impact overall application performance. IT can easily identify an application showing compromised performance and instantly see which of the other components in the infrastructure may be causing the problem. The company's Orion-supported software will enable users to design custom AppStack dashboards for individuals or teams to prioritize their monitoring while also maintaining broad visibility. The new Storage Resource Monitor provides IT with the necessary insight into storage resources and the potential performance impact on virtual environments to ultimately ensure business-critical application performance. Storage Resource Monitor provides support for dozens of common arrays and features new NetApp Cluster-mode, as well as NetApp IBM N-series, NetApp E-series family, EMC VNX family, and Dell EqualLogic PS Series arrays, to name a few. With real-time visibility into heterogeneous SAN and NAS arrays and integration with the Orion technology and AppStack dashboard, an IT pro is able to view and manage an IT environment from array to application. In addition to integration into the AppStack dashboard, Server & Application Monitor now also enables IT to monitor business-critical server and application performance hosted in the cloud by services such as Amazon EC2, Rackspace, Microsoft Azure, or virtually any other Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). It collates this data alongside on-premises server and application performance all within a single tool to support hybrid cloud environments. In addition to its existing support for over 200 applications, the company Server & Application Monitor adds new AppInsight for IIS, providing optimal website performance with critical Microsoft IIS web server monitoring, identifying pages that take too long to process, and providing metrics and remediation capabilities for starting and stopping websites. Virtualization Manager and Web Performance Monitor now integrate directly with the company's Orion technology backbone and the AppStack dashboard, enabling the sharing of critical performance metrics from these individual products with other modules already integrated. The integration of Virtualization Manager provides IT datastore-level detail that bridges the critical metrics from Storage Resource Monitor to Server & Application Monitor. The integration of Web Performance Monitor helps provide end-to-end performance monitoring for web-based environments.

IT can easily identify an application showing compromised performance and instantly see which of the other components in the infrastructure may be causing the problem.
